Cost of Mandarin classes & healthcare?

How much does a Mandarin class that meets 2-3x/wk typically cost? I saw the tuition for classes with the MTC, and they seemed rather steep.

As I understand, the healthcare is typically of high quality in Taiwan. I currently have a knee injury that I think will heal on its own. However, if it does not & I end up going to Taiwan at the end of the month as is my intention, I think there is the possibility that I will have to get surgery over there. I am interested to hear from people who have had surgery in Taiwan. How did it go? How much did it cost?

Taiwan has a lot of knee surgery done as so many people have accidents on motorbikes. Standards are great. However most expats here have ARC’s and medical insurance as costs are much cheaper that way.

For great healthcare, just hop a cheap flight to Bangkok or Penang. Singapore was also trying to get in on the medical tourism bandwagon, but I never hear anything about them, just Thailand and Malaysia.

Well, that is reassuring (not the rate of accidents but the experience with knee surgeries). Yeah, I was planning on getting an ARC & insurance before consulting with a doctor. I can get around fine & relatively pain free. I just can’t run or play sports. On the upside, I have an excuse for refusing to help friends move.
