Usually you can’t buy it here. The lodge dragon skillet appeared in January and is probably on clearance, for never to return, in March. There was a lot of (basic/not decorated) lodge stuff about a decade ago at Costco, but cast iron is heavy and if you don’t know how to take care of it, it will rust like crazy in Taiwan. Also, most people don’t have ovens, so seasoning is a pain and the only use for a Dutch oven (and the other stuff they sold long ago) is stovetop use here. So (my guess is) there isn’t much market for it here.
These I had not seen before, good price and selection of entry/middle class Sake. 300ml per bottle nice size for 2 persons meal
A bit over 1300 NTD if I remember correctly
Perfect, thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been sake-curious lately and had no idea how to start. This could work well!
I recently discovered Omar whiskey. I picked up the Bourbon type and Sherry type at other places. Costco had the triple cask single malt type with a cute bear on the box.
Edit: I see this was mentioned in mid February in the Omar specific thread. I’ll go hang out over there.
Carbon steel wok is popular as hell and they season in the same way as cast, plus they’re often smooth, not rough as hell like cast iron would.
Unless you are making those oyster omlettes, then those are big cast iron flat grills used for this (traditionally their base is a 55 gallon drum with holes cut in them so a gas burner can work).
You can absolutely buy cast iron here. As I wrote above, imported Lodge and Victoria have been available on Shopee for ages. I think other local e-commerce sites like Momo too, but I mostly use Shopee. They’re relatively expensive of course, but not unusually so for imported stuff, especially heavy imported stuff.
There are multiple local and Chinese brands as well, which are much cheaper as would be expected. There’s a camping store or something near me that has cast iron pans on display in the window (I’ve never been inside).
Obviously Costco doesn’t normally stock them and there isn’t a dedicated year-round Lodge cookware aisle, but then Costco isn’t a great option for buying cookware in general (or indeed any other arbitrary item — say, I don’t know, cups or cutlery). That’s just part of Costco’s business model, where they generally only stock one or two items in a given category. Cast iron in itself isn’t hard to find though.
le creuset is popular in Taiwan houses. I remember I bought Emily Henry dutch oven in Costco which is ceramic and soon after that they bring the Le Creuset. But they are sold everywhere.
The lodge Costco market as camping last time I saw it.
I like carbon steel better than cast. I find most cast tends to be rather fragile, not to mention rough. My problem with carbon steel pan is that they can warp when heated. Perhaps if I got another cheap carbon steel pan, and welded a thick (6mm thick) plate to the bottom of the steel pan, it would stop warping when you use them,
Yeah, I know. You’ve said all that already in three of your last four posts above.
I don’t have a problem with the roughness. In my case, the 10.25" Lodge dragon one is noticeably smoother than the 12" Lodge one I bought around the same time, though I think it’ll be a while before I’m cooking eggs in either. For less sticky stuff, they’re both fine IMO.
Before we turn this post into Reddit’s cast iron sub (people there be a tad crazy…), I encourage you to try making eggs in your lodge. The key is to let it heat up over low heat for at least ten minutes before cracking them in. I successfully made slidey eggs as the second thing I cooked in a new lodge.
They’re like 2-3x more expensive than in the US. Like, you’re getting into designer skillet brands like Smithy prices, but for Lodge, in Taiwan.
There is only one pizza at Costco now, I’ll let you guess which.
I asked them why and nobody knows, one guy said Costco is talking about offering only 1 pizza from now on.
Pig intestine and oyster vermicelli? ![]()
Seafood
Does it contain cheese and tomato?
It has cheese, but no tomato.
Talk about unrealistic expectations… ![]()
There were two options in Costco XiZhi at 2pm today, horrible seafood and horrible chicken aberration.
I see a third option there. ![]()

LOL, that’s the one I took! Was going to hit the suggestion box but the place was full of xanax zombies wombling around aimlessly getting in everyone’s way so I grabbed my stuff and skedaddled.
