Costco Thread 2024

I was there right at about that time. I was the Amerasian guy running around the cash register areas looking for boxes. And I joked around for a while with my cashier who told me to drink the huge Kirkland 1.75 liter scotch slowly (it’s a gift). I didn’t even look at the food offerings because my stomach was full of barbecue from Bogart’s.

Do they actually read the suggestion box?

I always saw the food court pizzas as proof of the quality of the ingredients inside, on the shelf. Has Costco Taiwan stopped selling pepperoni? Mozzarella cheese? Stopped selling the 8pk of Kirkland Signature Organic Tomato Sauce? Wheat flour?

If those items are still for sale then it should be possible to make a pepp pizza. The hot dogs are available for purchase in the refrigerated area; those are always the same all-beef hot dogs available for sale in the food court. When they sold a combo pizza those ingredients, too, were available for sale (flour, sweet peppers, pepp, ground pork, canned tomato, oregano).

Unless they’ve stopped selling the individual ingredients, it seems really odd that they can’t offer a pepperoni pizza, too.

You’re on the money. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with Costco’s customer service trying to understand why there are no mozzarella cheese blocks anymore -basically, limited amount per store, can’t help it if a customer comes in and buys the loot.

Pasta sauce? Flour?

Aren’t Costco’s hot dogs made of pork, not beef, BTW? MOS Burger’s are advertised as beef but I’m not sure about Costco’s.

It’s pork, it says so on their umbrella thing they put in the food court.

Could very well be; I’m going from memory. Whatever the source, they should also be available further back in the store, in a fridge case.

Mozzarella cheese blocks were on special offer in XiZhi today, looked to be lots of stock.

Not sure they’re the same, I bought a pack instore previously and they definitely didn’t taste the same, problem could be in the prep though!

I mean, I doubt that food court hot dogs have their own dedicated supply chain. Loss leader anyway at US$1.50. However, it’s been a minute since I had one at my local, and things do change.

Their mozzarella cheese is a terrific value, glad it’s still available. I guess I might be more concerned about the wheat flour availability what with events in Europe. That said, two new bakeries have popped up near where we live in Taoyuan City. :man_shrugging:

International versions[edit]

In the U.S., the hot dog and soda combo deal costs $1.50 (USD). In Australia and New Zealand, the hot dog is made of pork and is sold with a large soda for $1.99 (AUD/NZD).[11] In Canada, the price for a hot dog and soda with refills is C$1.50.[12] In Mexico, the hot dog is made of 100% beef and includes a drink (with refills) for MXN$30.[13] In the UK, the hot dog is also made from beef and customers also get a drink (with refills) for £1.50.[14] In Taiwan and Japan, the hot dog is made of pork. Japan’s price for their 120 g (4.2 oz) hot dog and refillable 600 ml (20 US fl oz) drink is ¥180.[15]

Haven’t seem them in store for a while, only seem to have some Futong garbage lately.

I’m sure it’s pork in Taiwan, because back when they had combo pizza they had to inform you that it contains beef. Enough Taiwanese do not eat beef at all (my uncle is one, religious reason and all that).

If they’re so steeply discounted, it probably means they are getting rid of it.

What do you use mozzarella cheese blocks for?

for me, I can freeze the thing and use it for years. I would slice it up then freeze it.

Guitar strings are great for cutting cheese by the way.

Are those large blocks actually good/edible? I buy the more expensive packs of fresh mozzarella semi-regularly for making pizza and lasagne and stuff, but I’ve never tried those ones. They look… big.

I guess that means not good/edible then.

You’d be surprised about how much of that stuff you swallow every day.

Is a cheap protein snack. Is okay but not great. The fresh is way better.
