Coughing in the bathroom

Coughing in the bathroom

Since most houses are so close to each other
I have always heard neighbors (especially men)
coughing hard and needing to spit loudly!
I hate it…

… until I started coughing as well… in my new place
(I am in a good shape)
The location is very specific, only in the bathroom,
when the room is filled with hot steam
And then the throat gets irritated…

And I have the feeling to spit my lungs out (is it English?)

Can I ask what’s in the water?

Can I … say I smell bleach? Chlorine?

Hmmm… I’ve had some coughing experiences usually from mold or someone cooking next door.

Does it happen near meal time when someone could be cooking?

Maybe the water from the shower is blocked a vent and then air from somewhere is coming into the bathroom?

Maybe the heat is causing mold to release?

Hawking and spitting in the morning is considered healthy.

Congestion is probably related to the humidity. I suffer from it too.

black mold

Very possible. I moved into an apartment once in Taipei, and was having terrible fits of coughing and sickness the first few days. Complained. Repairman came over and pulled open a wall panel, said the mold was so hazardous that I had to immediately move. The apartment owner luckily had another unit available in the building so everything worked out. The unit had been empty for awhile so the mold had taken hold or something I don’t know maybe because the air conditioning wasn’t on for a long time to clean and de-humidify the air.

They put enough chlorine in the water to make it undrinkable, IMHO. Way more than is necessary.

Thanks all

It is indeed a combination of all the reasons you mention

It is a new house, all new… maybe 2 years
but there is absolutely no ventilation in the bathroom
This tiny fan does not help much
After 3 months in the place, I can see mold growing on the fake ceiling

As for the water, I boiled it a few times as an experiment
it smells chemical for sure
chlorine? bleach? I need a ‘nose’ to help me decide
but not good to drink… and to breathe… for sure

As a conclusion, … well. let it be!
I take cold or warm showers now (not hot with steam everywhere)
And it’s getting better… not coughing
Thanks for the help
