True. Which makes it even sillier they refer to Baolai as “Kaohsiung City” (which makes people imagine collapsing skyscrapers), when they should just refer to “southern Taiwan”.
Wish I could find those articles. Best I can find is this riddle / paragraph from an academic article:
… the epicenter of the Meinong earthquake occurred in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan … The earthquake caused the deaths of 117 people and injured 510 people in Tainan City, which is about 50 km from Kaohsiung City.
Indeed. When they talk about wetlands, yes, there is one right next to the tiger and dragon pagoda, but most often they refer to the ones way past Zhongying… Or yeah, refering to Meinong, teh heart of hakka, as part of Kaohsiung city.
But it would be just as vague if it were “Taipei County”.
But at least Taipei County has countryside and rural connotations, and the term suggests a bigger area.
