Crazy Man Thrashes Mac Donalds near ChengChi University

I witnessed something pretty crazy last night. I was waiting for my GF near ChengChi University in Muzha to go eat dinner. Accross from the bus stop is a Mac Donalds. So I am waiting minding my own business when all of sudden there is a loud crash and broken glass at the entrance of Mac Daonalds. I see this 20 some year old guy (pretty big guy too) totally thrashing the lobby of Mac Donalds. He flipped out! He was throwing trays, cups, tearing down displays, breaking glass and yelling like a mad man!

This of course drew a crowd of curious spectators…but no one was doing anything. I was tempted to call 119…but i speak virtually no mandarin…which leads me to wonder if the operators of emergency lines can speak english? Anyways, the guy took off down the street yelling and bleeding from his hand. The employees looked shocked and started to clean up the mess…and boy what a big mess it was! The place was trashed!

About 5 minutes later the guy comes back…still in a rage…and attempts to enter Mac Donalds again. What I saw blew me away:

A female employee body blocked him from going in. She was like 1/2 his size. I thought for sure she was putting herself in a world of danger and I started to cross the street to see if I could help restrain the guy when all of a sudden he broke down and started sobbing. While he cried she seemed to be comforting him and gently holding his arm brought him away from the store to the corner of the steet.

The police arrived after about 15 minutes into the whole ordeal which surprised me. One cop actually drew his gun amongst the now huge crowd that had assembled to watch. The other cop looked like he told him to holster his weapon and they started to talk to some of the employees. They didnt go near the sobbing crazy guy or try to assist the poor girl that was helping him. 10 minutes later an ambulance arrived. The police talked to the paramedics and they escorted the guy back into Mac Donalds. They were showing him the damage and yelling at him! Wouldnt this just agrivate him more??? They then got a book bag that he left behind, put him in the ambulance, and drove off. Two cops stayed behind to take pictures. Then my Girlffriend showed up and we talked about the fiasco over dinner.

I was shocked at a couple of things:

1.) No one even attempte dto assist the girl who was body blocking the crazy guy.
2.) The police didnt do any kind of crowd control at all…the guy could have flipped out and taken down any number of folks and kids standing near by.
3.) They yelled at the guy for thrashing the restaurant and took him back inside without restraints amongst customers and employees still in the restaurant!

In all, the only one hurt was the guy himself, thank goodness. But the way the police handled things, there could have been many more people hurt.

You have seen Taipei City’s finest in action! Fun, aren’t they?

TTIWWOP

I wonder whether that girl was someone who knew him – otherwise why would she dare stop him that way?

Anyway, like they said, Taipei’s finest. Pretty useless bunch, most of the time. :s

NT$70 an hour buys a lot of loyalty.

That guy must have had a Big Mac Attack.

Excellent story! :bravo: :notworthy: Thanks for sharing it with us.

I guess we are lucky he got his aggresions out in the way he did rather then blowing the place up. Anybody remember the McDonald’s bombings? The guy blew up my Yung–Ho branch and I had to go without burgers for quite a while :help: .
I wonder what set him off,…maybe too much salt in his fries or being told …“Please wait 5 minutes for hamburger” while it was rush hour meal time?

More likely missed out on the job of his dreams.

When did the Yong Ho Maccas get blown up?

HG

Did the crazy guy look like this?

Ouch!

Sounds to me more like the cops showed up, realized it was someone they “knew,” and gave him a telling off. The MacD girl probably knew him too.

Damn I missed it!!! I live right around the corner and usually walk past there every night around 9:30pm on my way home from work. Last night I was at CKS sending my daughter home to Canada for the summer.

He was probably pissed at the slow service. I’ve only been to McDonalds there once or twice, but the service there both times was bloody slow and the employees apathetic. That or perhaps he caught his SO going after another employee’s McChicken or perhaps even Filet O’ Fish if so inclined.

Well. The guy did say he speaks no Chinese so I think helping would be difficult.

I would guess the girl is the reason he thrashed the place. Girlfriend or ex girlfriend… something like that.

He probably meant the Police didn’t help the girl. The customers in McDonalds were probably too freaked out to do anything… and Derek was at the bus stop he shouldn’t have been the one to run over and help.

I forgot exactly when so googled it. Damn! that was back in 1992. Time does fly.
Anyway here are the only stories I could find on it and they seem to be before they cought the guy.
If I remember correctly they blew up the Yung–Hu McD’s and bombs were found in a few others. Maybe it was in Kaohsiung where the police were killed trying to difuse a bomb. The bomb fuse (trigger?) was made from mercury—something they had never run across I guess.
In the end they cought the guy who was just trying to extort money.
I remember they cased out his mothers place and he eventually came back to mama after getting tired of hiding out in the mountains eating instant noddles and biscuits.

He should’ve ordered a Happy Meal.

All I meant is that the guy didn’t appear to be hurting anyone. If he started hitting the girl then of course he should have gone to help. But if he didn’t speak the guys language then there would be potential to worsen the situation.
