i want to create an image of my xp installation on C: so that I can easily restore it in the future.
right now installing xp and all the extra software i need takes at least five hours, and i dont really have that sorta time anymore. ideally, i’d like to be able to take a snapshot of my current install with all the extras and back it up to dvd.
try true image from acronis.
costs a bit, but is well worth it.
it will make a 1:1 image of your hdd and create a recovery cd for booting the PC.
great interface, easy to use and very reliable
i always used an old version of Norton Ghost (not the newer bloated symantec version). it fits on a floppy (it is in DOS), it can be used with both windows and linux. it can also be burned on bootable DVD along with your backup. it can compress, thus making the process very fast.
