I’m planning on leaving my current job in the near future. At this point I have doubts I will find full time employment in my field in Taiwan so I have started working on getting some freelance engagements in Singapore and Bangkok to pay the bills. I still plan on living in Taiwan and will likely get a visa through my wife as I did when we first arrived.
I have a stupid question that I just have to ask. I have 2 credit cards and a cell phone plan. No doubt that I received these due to my place of employment and the salary they gave me. If I am no longer employed when it comes time for these cards to be renewed will they not renew them? If I left Taiwan for say a year, but still paid my bills, would I still have use of these ‘services’?
Are the cards from the U.S. or from a Taiwanese bank?
In the U.S., they don’t seem to care as long as you have been paying them regularly. In fact, IME they’re so bloody desperate to keep people on their cards that they’re willing to put up with just about anything as long as they think they might eventually get paid back.
Not sure about TW. Probably similar, but having a good record would likely help a lot more.
For extenting your Taiwanese credit card you need a valid ARC (at least with Citibank). When mine was about to expire Citibank send me a letter and asked me to come by and prove that the ARC had been extended (stamp on the back).
If you can’t / won’t do this I expect that they bar or cancel the card.
They are Taiwan cards. I guess it’s a stupid question but was just concerned about losing these necessities. I know one of my cards expiration date is aligned with my visa so I was curious to see how closely they monitor foreign card holders activities.
