Credit Cards for Foreigners - General Discussion

Citi never tried, I opened directly at DBS

Similar experience as me.

HSBC Premier account outside Taiwan beforehand. Opened HSBC TW account at a branch. They gave me HSBC TW account numbers on the spot.

However, the debit card, linking my overseas Premier account, and most importantly, the online/mobile banking PINs, took 1-2 weeks.

But a demand deposit at a Taiwanese bank? One hour max. Passbook, debit card, mobile banking and all.

Yeah, I would have thought it’s possible to do within “one hour max”, assuming you elect not to argue with them about the things they’re doing wrong like misdeclaring your tax residency.

my personal record: Bank of Taiwan. 45 mins! including the arguing for tax residency (which I won).

Damn, US citizens have it easier for once? No tax residency to argue :sob:

Same here, HSBC TW opened the premier account directly during the visit to the bank, no wait.

Just to give an update on this, the branch called me today and told me that, indeed, the “application” was denied! The reason being is that I’m not receiving my salary there.
Anyways, I will be filing a complaint to FSC and FOI as it was suggested here but that’s just to stir some shit at the branch. Won’t be going there again.
