Cross cultural relationships survey

Why go to all the trouble of writing such an exhaustive survey – not to mention sifting through and analyzing the results – if all you’re looking for are a few anecdotal accounts?
Its not clear at all from either your posts here or your blog what you’re researching and now I’m more interested than ever to know what you plan to do with these non-representative samples you hope to get.

Yeah! Rather ask Formosans to meet you at a pub, buy them a couple of drinks, ask them a few questions and record their answers on a dictaphone. That way you’ll get far more respondents and less contrived answers. Hell, even I would volunteer for that! I’m full of nasty anecdotes.

So what’s it for, then? If I think its a “really interesting” bit of research I might be persuaded to spend some time on it.
I confess I did take a look and filled in one or two yes or no type answers, but it was WAAAAAY too long and was seeking WAAAAAAY too much detail so I very quickly got bored with it and gave up. I cannot imagine that you’ll get more than a handful of people willing to spend the kind of time you seem to require, which means that your sample size is going to be so tiny as to be totally insignificant, won’t it?[/quote]

Jeez, sandman, if you spent the same amount of time answering the survey as you have discussing it, you could have finished yours and mine together.

You obviously didn’t see the length of the survey.

I needed some filler activity between frequent trips to the oven, so I did the survey; wasn’t so bad.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer the questionnaire. I got alot more detailed responses than I initially expected, and I’m utterly grateful.

So, what are your findings?

Sociological surveys are about as useful as pissing into the wind.

Exceptionally difficult to fathom, and the results most fleeting.
Primarily used to garner further funding with which to pursue the unattainable.

Why? Because it’s there!

You’re welcome. Let us know where we can find your final report please.

Yes, it’s been a long time since the survey is conducted, but better late than never.

Here is the first of a series of posts about the topic summarizing the responses I received. I hope you’ll find it interesting.
