I had a great dinner here a week ago. The owner, Mike Waldorf, is also the owner of Taipei’s most famous Greek restaurant, Mykonos Taverna. The set meal I had here for a mere $500NT is easily the best value I’ve had in a long time. Came with wine, appetizers, a very ample-portioned main course and dessert. I’ll be going back for sure. Cruise Ship is located at #233 Anhe Road, Section 2. The telephone number is 2738-8492 and 2736-3289. They’re closed on Mondays.
Sixteen chips and two bits of meat plus a salad that looks like it consists solely of onions as well as a sprig of parsley and a wedge of lemon. Can anyone tell me why I should bother going to a restaurant to pay a premium for something that looks like it cost nothing and took no effort to make? Are expectattions so low in Taiwan that a picture such as this is supposed to look attractive and appetizing?
I kind of trust Maoman’s judgment on whether or not this place offers good food and good value, but my god! What a crappy, uninspired photo! Definitely a case where no pic would be far better.
Someone should suggest to Waldorf that he pay out a few grand for some decent photos so that he doesn’t have to trust the photographic ahem skills of some of these reviewers.
If I was served a dish looking like that in a UK sit-down chippy, I’d probably be quite happy, but in a supposedly more up-market joint I’d send it back. Hell, the offering depicted in that pic is not even up to pub grub standards.
I watched the chef at Les Amis a month or two ago doing photos of some of their stuff and he had the right idea – glycerin spray, etc. The dishes looked absolutely fantastic, he was framing them properly with decent lighting, and even though he was just using a little digital point and shoot, the photos were turning out excellent.
It doesn’t take much effort and the results are infinitely better.
This place isn’t Lawry’s Prime Rib, or even Muma’s. But look again at what you get for $500

: “wine, appetizers, a very ample-portioned main course and dessert.” I had coffee, too, but I’m not sure if that was included or not. I had a very large salmon steak that was very good. The boss took very good care of us, and we had a great evening without breaking the bank. If someone knows a place where I can get all of that for the same price, let me know. If you order your meal in the lounge, not the dining room (picture was taken in the lounge), a three course meal sets you back only $200! That’s value.
