Well, that was a WONDERFUL evening!
A HUGE thankyou to Taffy and Divea for organizing it into a totally pain-free night! Usually, small restaurants and big gatherings donāt work very well, but that one was done with military precision. I came, I ate (a lot, for very little money), I met some old friends and made a couple of new ones. Sure, the food was only acceptable, at best, but you know, thatās hardly even the point for this kind of do. And that aubergine dish was actually delicious, I thought.
For those (Craig) to whom I didnāt manage to nod more than a quick hello, Iām truly sorry ā the kid makes things a little more⦠difficult! Next time.
And a very very special thanks to the Man of the Funk and Lupillus for entertaining the wee man so me and the wife could actually eat more than a forkful without interruption! That kind of thing is more precious than rubies.
AND I got to kiss and cuddle the lustrous and extraordinarily beautiful Divea! Life just doesnāt get much better.
Oh, wait, it does ā seeing as how I finally got my bottle of cheap-&^%$* Scotch and my box of cheap*&^%^^ cigars from Jimipresley for my prizewinning poem!
Thanks again, all, and that includes a special thanks from my non-forumosan wife, who also had a great time.
That was a fun one. Good food and good company. Special thanks to Taffy and Divea for the organization, Mr Funk for the loan of Formosan Odyssey and Mr Presley for not kissing me. And Sandy, next time weāll manage more than a quick hello - I understand. Iāll probably be in the same boat in a couple of years.
Iām in agreement with sandman - I never thought eggplant could taste that good. All in all, damn fine food and company. Iām fussy when it comes to food - that was all good. Taffy and divea outdid themselves. Nice. Thanks guys.
It was a wonderful night. Actually, Thank you all for the wonderful time I had. Especially Taffy who really did all the work in choice of venue, organising the event and paying the bills etc.
Cfi and Mrs. CFi, great choice of starters
Sandman, Thank you, but believe me the pleasure was all mine. Sandy wee is really sweet and the Mrs. phenomenal!
Funk, Fee, Lupillus, Kage the lovely housecat, and Anthony, itās always nice to be around you guys. The food too had its good moments.
Great to meet the newbies, welcome to the island!!
Particularly enjoyable moments:
Eating something that was not beef noodles. (only thing I can order in chinese)
Super nice couple telling me where to go in Taiwan. (if I had the money)
Watching the little kid happily slam the door of the fridge repeatedly! (Reminds me of myself)
Hearing the travails of the mystery parking garage and the vanishing car.
The hilarious lady who kept trying to sell me a dog. (āSure, he can live on beer and pretzelsā¦ā)
Going to a bar afterwards to watch soccerā¦not my sort of game but I hope to come back for Pride championship or UFC if itās showing there.
I met a lot of really funny people, just about everyone was super nice, and I ate some interesting food. Thanks for having this wonderful event.
As I returned home with the sunrise, the memory of curry was becoming pretty distant - it has come back into focus today. Lovely people, including a few new (to me) faces and some old friends. Ended up at five in the morning listening to kageās stories about driving through the Israeli desert by herself (sheād given up trying to pimp maimed animals by that point) and arguing with Lupillus about whether morality requires religion. Meeting housecat, aahz and Mrs cfi was a pleasure, and I want to thank fee for suggesting the venue, divea and cfi for ordering and everyone else for helping me and the missus to have a fine time.
There was NT$440 left after Iād paid up and collected the cash - Iāll put it towards the bill at the next event.
I was still listening to those stories 3 hours ago after an all-nighter and an all-day search for a beach in Taiwan, which we finally foundā¦and got my first Taiwan sunburn. Damn, Iām tired. But at least I finally got out of Taipei; it was quite theraputic.

I missed the funā¦darn kids. I could listen to Kageās stories for a few days non-stop.
I want to add my kudos here. I had a wonderful eveningācurry night was an extension for me of lots of lovely Indian food wonderfully prepared by beautiful Divea! The food at Masala was yummy, but the highlight was meeting so many of you with whom Iāve been commiserating, sparring, and shooting the breeze for so long now. You all made even more lovely dining companions.
Hanging out afterward, I learned that Maoman has a much more colorful history than I would have imagined, and is genuinly as great a guy as he seems.
Divea was a trully wonderful hostes. Her little ones are very charming, too! I was happy with her in her lovely home, peaceful, and excited to meet someone else who enjoys jewelry as art, expression, and history.
It was the longest amount of time Iāve ever spent away from the housekitten, however, and I missed him terribly! The housekitten spent the weekend bonding with his uncle. They both had a great time, but I think that Uncle was very ready for my return! He doesnāt have children of his own and this was the longest amount of time heād ever spent with a child.
We all had a wonderful time and learned a lot! I had a small drink with Jimmy P., who was lovely to meāeven if he wonāt remember, Sandman, who was mostly bussy chasing around after a develish wee angel, and Maoman. Kage was lovely and I wish Iād gotten to swim with her yesterday! Sorry I missed that. Thanks again to all of you!
I had a great time, too, and it was nice to meet you! Regarding my colorful history, actually all the stories I told you happened to irishstu. Iām just living vicariously through his experiences. My life is quite beige, actually.

Iām off this week to the spiritual home of curry to sample the cuisine of exotic-sounding places like Rusholme and Oxford. Should be a culinary adventure.
Iāll happily set up another curry night up when I return (late July), or perhaps Divea can organise one in my absence.
