I tried Costco but they didn’t have what I was looking for. Any ideas where I can find a better selection?
Thanks!

If coming by taxi you can show the driver this map in Chinese:
Dragonbones store will definitely have a wider range of stuff, but if you live in the Songshan Dist and can read Chinese, here’s an alternative. As you’re driving East down Minseng E Rd towards Neihu, just before you get on the bridge, look to your right (after all the aquarium shops, JUST before getting on the bridge) and you’ll see a sign in Chinese for a DIY baking supply store, which is on an alley just off Minseng. I was in there a few days ago and they have a few varieties of good-looking curry powder in fairly large bottles.
Thanks MT, I checked it out today. Here’s a clarification on the directions; you have to go just past the start of the upramp for the Minquan bridge (i.e., below the bridge).
As you’re driving East down Minquan E Rd towards Neihu, after passing the aquarium shops and crossing Fuyuan St. (the last before the bridge), instead of getting on the bridge, take the low road parallel to the bridge on the south side. Go a short block, just past a Bridgestone tire shop; turn right, and go about 50 meters, and the shop is on your left. 義興西點原料行 is the shop name; the address is 富錦街574巷2號 Fujin St., Lane 574, #2. Phone 2760-8115. Open 9a-9p; closed the 2nd and 4th Sun. of each month. The owner does speak a tiny bit of English in case you need to ask for something like baking powder.
As for curry, they have a Madras curry powder, yes. Their selection of baking stuff is very good, and most prices quite reasonable. Their 1 lb. of butter is cheaper than Welcome or RT Mart, for example, at 65 NT.

Correction: That should be Minquan bridge.
(It appears the baking supply store is in the same neighborhood as the Songshan Kendo dojo.)
Mod note: Thanks for the correction; I accidentally edited the correction into your post instead of mine at first, so I’ll just leave it corrected in yours too. -DB
I’ll check out DB’s Indian store next time I’m in Taipei, but in the meantime, does anyone know of an Indian grocery store in Taichung?
Wow, thanks for the replies … Forumosa rules! :bravo:

I just want pappadums.
my mom visited me awhile bag and left all these spices with me. If i remember correctly, i have an unopened bag of cumin, unopened bag of tumeric, unopened bag of cayenne pepper. I think, I need to double check. I think i could mail it over using 7-11 postal mail if anyone is interested in buying it, i can check the packs for prices. Otherwise i was going to ship it all back home with me.
I 'm interested! it depends on the price though to be honest - i don’t have much NT to spare…
I will send you a PM later tonight or tomorrow morning, I need to check the packages. ttyl!
I am from Cape Town (South Africa) and if you know anything about CT, it’s cuisine is heavily influenced with Malay/Indian nuances! Even here in Taiwan we only cook with authentic spices which we get from Jobi in Taipei. If you need anything sent from up here (Longtan/Taoyuan) PM me and we’ll make a plan. (Jobi does deliver!) I’m not looking to make money! Just appreciating anybody in Taiwan who actually knows something about REAL spices (and not only the “5spice” crap!)
Lemme know, we’ll sort you out!
:bravo:
