For many years, DPP has played the ethnic issues in Taiwan repeatly.
The tension reaches record high today between the two ethnic groups.
Yee-Zen Chio, the Chief of Staff of President Chen, recently gave a
speech at a DPP meeting, about the policy towards KMT:
“… We need to cut his throat and finish the job!” The words came out
of his mouth so naturally… it sent a chill down to the spine of every
Pan-Blue in the Island.
Many of us here support Chen and his Pan-Green almost unconditionally,
but how much further do we want to go? Do we really have the stomach
to witness Chen’s cut-throat episode?!
‘Ge1hou2zhan4’ is a metaphor meaning to pull out all the stops or ‘to give no quarter’. Chen just means that the DPP will fight hard to defeat the KMT in the year-end elections. This term has become very popular in political discussions over the past six months. It seems to refer in particular to the DPP’s efforts on the local level to break the KMT’s hold on factions. There is no way it can be interpreted the way you have translated it.
Does anyone know if this is a Taiwanese expression?
Interesting GangGo that you said the DPP’s comments sent chills down the spines of all the hardcore Blues on the Island. This is something I see a lot with the hardcore Pan-Blues. A kind of minority fear of being ruled by the majority. Fear that Taiwan will become a Tai Yu speaking only place, fear that the BSR will totally take over and eradicate everything Chinese about Taiwan. I suppose when the 1949ers are in power, they feel comfortable enough, but they really do seem petrified at times to be in that minority and not in power.
Om the other hand, they still seem to speak loud as hell in their thick China accents spouting derogatory comments about President Chen etc. on the streets of Taipei and in restaurants. I have overheard some things and wanted to start fighting in the restaurant. They also proudly wear their KMT hats etc on the streets of Taipei, yet there also seems to be a lot of scared 1949ers as well.

Obviously one is a metaphor for a political fight against the kmt–and not any single person, while the other was a direct threat against the person of the president.
Yee-Zen Chio advocated the killing of thousands of loyal Taiwan loving individuals.
Soong just advoated the killing of one individual (we’re not even sure he’s from Taiwan based on a recent poll among the aborigines)
Using Vulcan logic one can easily deduce Yee-Zen Chio statement is more of a threat to Taiwan stability. We should incarcerate him and send him to Daioyutai. To not do so would mean we don’t love Taiwan.

I looked it up. “Yee-Zen Chio” is supposed to mean 邱義仁, which in Hanyu Pinyin would be Qiu Yiren. The GIO’s spelling is Chiou I-Jen, which is equally unhelpful. And people wonder why we need a standard romanization for spelling names! :ohreally:
