I’m not quite ready for a race yet, and just moved toTaiwan, so I don’t know my way around-is there any cycling clubs (either mountain-biking or road-cycling- i love both, and am still shopping for a bike) for people who just want to get out and ride?
Also, where the main language is English?

I was hoping for some other replies before I chipped in - in case there were any other suggestions.
I am aware of a couple of facebook groups which occasionally organise cycling rides: One is “River Runners”, the other is “Hiking and Biking in Taipei”.
The rides they organise happen about once every 3-4 weeks. They don’t only do bike rides but also organise a number of local hikes.
If you’re located in Taichung our bike shop, Warehouse 185, is in the midst of setting up a ‘foreign legion’ ride out club where the majority of folks will be English speaking Laowais. If you’re in Taipei or other areas I’m afraid I’m out of the loop.

i’ve relocated to hsinchu. if anyone wants to ride on sundays i’ll be going up and down highway 61 with great alacrity. prefer someone bulky to draft behind; gets windy down here.
Hi, sorry I was away for the weekend. I am in Tunghsih, about an hour outside of Taichung. These are great suggestions-I will make a trip into Tahichug to check out the store. By the bear- how far of a ride ar eyou thinking? Hsinchu is a bit far for me if I’m going to bike ot get to you, but we can see if we can make some rides work.
yeah you’re prolly a bit far away. but if you head north on the No. 3 inland highway and I head south we’re sure to meet up one day. 
I’ll let you know when my range reaches Dahu. Today I only got as far as Beipu. 
Riding around Hsinchu… don’t you hate it when you ride out against a headwind, and when you head back, the wind changes and you ride back against a headwind.
When I occasionally teach at NCTU, I take the bike (I have a folder, a Dahon Cadenza) on the Neiwan Line (train) into the hills, detrain, and ride.

Quick Google search for Taiwan cycling pulls up loads of links to festivals, tours, etc.
Sorry for resurrecting this post. Anyone know any other clubs for biking? The Taipei hikers and bikers still seems active, looks pretty good.
Bumping this up too. Any foreigner’s cycling club here in Taipei? Near Zhongshan or one that frequents Dadaocheng wharf? 
I’ll move permanently to Taipei in 3 weeks, and I’m interested in that kind of information too.
I was back to cycling in 2013 after a few years off. I’m want to join a friendly club involved in road and mtb racing. A member mentioned the Columbus Team in another thread. I guess that’s where I’ll look first.
Does anyone know if they’re involved in any xc racing?
There seems to be a fair amount of races and cycling events in Taiwan, but sadly I couldn’t find much informations. Is the season still on during the winter?

No to Columbus XC racing. No to basically ANY XC racing in Taiwan. A minuscule amount of ridiculous “downhill” stuff that doesn’t really deserve the title of “racing” does occur.
I see. Do you mean there’s no long distance races, or races other than of “olympic format” ? By olympic format, I mean circuit races.
Because, as I had a look to the Taiwanese Cycling Federation photos and to Columbus’ Facebook photos, I was under the impression there were quite a bit of “olympic format” XC racing going on in Taiwan. They never seem quite technical though, or maybe the pictures were taken from somewhere “convenient”, not from rock gardens…
well, i stand corrected. Looks like there are more XC events these days than there used to be. And, the second place guy is from Columbus, and the guy who’s fallen off is too, so Columbus must be getting into some cross training! When I did race in Taiwan (road, with Columbus), there were not many XC races at all, but that may have changed in the last few years. Check jaame’s posts here on forumosa for DH and other MTB racing… it’s not huge. The road racing scene is much bigger, and that’s still not big.

That is the north taiwan mountain biking fraternity’s meet up page. Races occasionally get advertised there. I know there are races taking place all the time because I see the writeups in the magazines. Even being kind of involved myself, a lot of races go by without my prior knowledge. As far as I now, all the races are one offs, no series, no national federation etc. I could be wrong about XC but certainly all the DH races are one offs organised by enthusiasts.
I won a DH race (Veterans’ class) two weeks ago in Taichung. I won a rather nice Taokas Lycan AM frame (large size, 150mm travel 4-bar) which I’m willing to let go for a song if you know anyone looking for a frame…
Any foreigners start a road bike club in Taipei? I’m looking to get a road bike at the end of the month and wouldn’t mind having company while I begin this new hobby. PM me!
