I heard some chatter when I got off the bike after I finished my morning commute, and I realized that it was my right shoe talking to me: it was saying “Dude, the sole is unglued! fix me!”.
This is not my first experience with talking gear and my psychologist said that it’s absolutely normal, and that I have to follow those voices no matter what they say, so I took some glue off my drawer and read the instructions:
clean surface and allow to dry thoroughly
for china glassware: blahblahblah
For other repairs: apply a thin coat to both surfaces to be joined. Use sparingly, too much adhesive will weaken the bond. Poroous materials may soak up adhesive and need second coat, which should be applied immediately. Let dry 15-30 seconds. Press parts together. Hold a few minutes until hardening begins.
Wait for 24 hours before using
When dry, wipe off excess adhesive with nail polish remover or acetone
So I took the glue and gently pour glue on both shoe and sole, creating a mess probably different from the recommended thin coat. Then I used my finger for evening it up and blew some air while counting down a random number. Then I sandwiched the whole thing with my hands and put it under the cabinet, where it will be for not 24 but probably 8 hours, more or less.
I’m not 100% sure, but I might be needing a pair of cycling shoes very soon.
Any shop where I could get basic, good, cheap shoes? Like a place with big (and not fake) discounts, or closing down, or something?
8,000 NT’s… I know you are kidding but other people would say that’s a good price and that they are worth it. That’s the problem. People accepting crazy prices so the industry is not shy at all with prices. I can have a lot of fun with 8,000, visit places, eat, buy other stuff…
might not be your style but you could always buy used. I did that when I ran clipless and got some sidi’s for around nt$1,000 or maybe it was 1600, cheap for sidi regardless.
This triathlon store often has good specials- usually stuff they decide not to carry anymore. But I see that they only have two cycling shoes now and neither is that cheap. Not familiar with Bont, but maybe the 4,000 NT one is a good deal for the brand. Don’t know.
You sound like me when I first started cycling. I was swimming only previously. A pair of goggles, swim suit, cap lasts for about a year (about 5,000 NT for good stuff, too). Talk about sticker shock after I started cycling. I still have that, but 4,700 NT for shoes seems okay considering how long you can use a pair. I’m seeing some Northwave on sale for 3,500 NT, but you probably want something cheaper than that.
