Dan Ryan's

i had dinner there last night, just didn’t seem to be as good as it was it before. Anyone else think so.

I had the Lasagne, and though the ingredients were good, it just looked as if it had been made like a jigsaw puzzle, without the box lid.

Ever since they got rid of the spinach salad years ago, it hasn’t been that good. Go to Hong Kong and do a comparison of their menu. (BTW, does anyone remember when Dan Ryan’s was “Passion” and Samantha K DJ’d there?)

I usually don’t order any of the entrees at Dan Ryan’s.

I think it is still an OK place for a cheeseburger and a beer. Some of the lunch sandwiches are OK, too.

Yeah, I saw the Dan Ryan’s in HK and it did look a bit nicer.

It’s been so long since I’ve been there. I didn’t know they had cheeseburgers. I only ever had the spaghetti. It looks like I have to go back.

There is also Dan Ryan’s in Singapore.

(Still searching for the perfect cheeseburger. So far Malibu West has my vote.)

There Thanksgiving dinner this year was not as good as last year either. my turkey was very red this year and was only luke warm.

I never thought Dan Ryan’s was too good in the first place, but still it is better than Ruby Tuesday in Warner Village.

Sorry, LittleBddhaTW, I don’t have the exact address. But I do know that Dan Ryan’s is on the west side of Tunhua (north?) Road, between Nanjing and Bade. It is pretty much across from the big stadium that is being built on the corner of Tunhua and Nanjing. It is also close to the Shannon, or if you know where Ikea is, walk south on Tunhua after you cross Nanjing.

Hope that this helps–and doesn’t confuse you.

Just had to post the fact that none of the 10% SVC (I assume this means Service Charge on the bill) goes to servers (or kitchen staff). An employee of 5 years at Dan’s tells me she has never received any of it, and that she was told the money is used to pay for staff’s wages, and oddly enough, “tax”.

Im sure DR’s isn’t the only place that charges the SVC and doesn’t give it to the servers as tips.

A bit deceptive, isn’t it? :loco: Fraudulent, actually. I’ve never come across a company that tacks on an extra charge to pay for the staff’s wages. That’s called overhead.

Someone out there from Dan Ryan’s who can set the record straight? If you want to rip people off, why not just increase the prices on your already overpriced menu, rather than leave the impression we are paying a gratuity?

Not impressed. Their Porterhouse is really a T-bone. Prime Rib was weak. Chili’s Rib Eye is better than anything Dan Ryan had.

Bar atmosphere could be okay though.

The only thing “Chicago Style” about Dan Ryan’s is the wall deco. I went there thinking “Oh, a chicago style grill, I can get a fatty fat polish sausage, a real hotdog, and an ITalian sausage/beef combo sandwich”

How disappointed I was when I saw “Fish & Chips” and “Baked Ziti” on the menu.

Chicago Grill my ass.

I am still miffed about the crusty, reheated Thanksgiving “dinner” my wife and I got there a about six or seven years ago. Wouldn’t go back unless a friend was really desperate for western food, and they were paying …

we had a great breaktfast there today. The ulitmate dan’s omlete ( or whatever it was ) was real good and the bread basket was good also.

the staff was real helpfull as our party had 2 screamng kids ( sorry to everyone else) one of the kids was screaming and a waitress took him for a walk around the store to quiet him down.
I was only my second time there but I went because one of the waitresses works at the adventist hospital and helped deliver my baby.
it was a little pricey at 400 nt for breakfast but it was better than the 120nt beakfast at swensons

Was it NT$280 better? For that, you could get a very nice breakfast at Carnegie’s.

I agree with most people about DR. However, I think that they have better food and service than Chili’s. The soups, especially.

My feeling is that eating at Dan Ryan’s is a step above Chilis, TGI Friday’s, Ruby Tuesday, and Swensen’s I have some peeves about the people who work at those establishments. They are just in a hurry to make quick money and get you out of there. Dan Ryan’s is different. (I don’t know whether or not they deserve the extra fee for “service”, but that’s a different issue).

I really like the lasagne, and whoever didn’t like it, please recommend a better one. I’m a fanatic about the “best” food!!!

Their ribs are good, but not as good as Willy’s Second Base (in Tainan).

Just my opinion.

After 6 and a half years in Taiwan, I finally checked out Dan Ryan’s for brunch this morning. I noticed some people criticized it in this thread a few years ago. It may not be haute cuisine, but it seemed fine to me.

For NT$280, I think, I had the ultimate omelete, which was fairly hefty and stuffed full of mushrooms, bacon, peppers and other stuff, with a decent hash brown and coffee (i believe that may not have been included), which the staff came around frequently to refresh. My wife had the corned beef and hash, which was also satisfying (though nothing compared to mom’s).

They had various other breakfast items on the menu that looked far better than a crappy “American Breakfast” of white bread, processed ham and runny eggs or whatever one might buy at Swensons, Is Coffee or Barista, etc.

I’d be happy to check it out for lunch or dinner, too, if the opportunity arose, as those menu items also looked good. As I said, it’s nothing to write home about, but while stuck in Taiwan it was a decent way to start the day.

Never done their brunch but going by Mother Theresa’s opinion I shall have to one Sunday. Dan Ryan’s is still one of my favorite places to go and hang out in the bar and grab a burger and watch sports. I never sit in the dining room, just the small tables in the bar.

Their burger is still my favorite in Taiwan, though I haven’t tried any others in a long time. And they have great fries. One secret about the burger is that if you come in at night it’s not on the dinner menu but just ask and they’ll make it. My favorite is the chili burger.

Their service has stepped up quite a bit in the last few years too. Their waiters and waitresses are a friendly bunch.

I have had the brunch a number of times and I really like it. The eggs benedict is something I haven’t found anywhere else.

Dark Horse mentioned the burger not being on the menu in the evening. The Reuben sandwich is that way, too. The Reuben is maybe my favorite item at Dan Ryan’s.

Pig and Whistle has a Reuben, but the bread is simply whole wheat and they serve it with lettuce, tomato, and pickle on the side. It’s not terrible but it isn’t good, either.

You haven’t been to the The Diner then

Right. Never heard of “The Diner”. Google wasn’t much help because the name is too generic. “The diner taiwan” brought up all kinds of stuff. Please fill us in.

Where is this place? How does it compare to Dan Ryans’ benedict?
