Daniel Pearl Day 2009 (Taipei) with FOD fest

Folks:

We got a great line-up of entertainment for you, including Todd Mack
and 4 other musical performers from the US who bill themselves as FODfest.
There’s even an oud player amongst this group!

The big show will be at Huashan (near Alleycats) and will be outdoors (inside
if it rains) and feature the very popular David Chen & the Muddy Basin Ramblers,
A Moving Sound, Blues Vibration, Small Apollo (Nathan Javens), El Jefe (The Chief) and
lots of other special guests. Come early to hang with Todd Mack as the show
will get rocking later.

Special thanks to Alleycats for this, as well as AIT, Taiwan Foreign Correspondents
Club, and all you lovely folks. It’s nigh on 8 years now, and it is definitely gettting
better!

Good news, i’ve just learned we’ve secured a big outdoor stage at huashan, lights and all. i promise you it will be the biggest event ever.

we will be playing outside under the lights from 7-10:30, later migrating over to Alleycats brand new outdoor bar for drinks and acoustic jamming. when it gets even later, we will move inside.

Here is more information about Daniel Pearl Day. And
yes, some of you are correct that it is also a tour
this year.

Basically, we are bringing Daniel Pearl’s former band
member, Todd Mack and a group of musicians that
he tours with every October in the US called
Friends of Danny (FODfest).

It was their idea to spend a few more days and
basically do a tour of the island. The big show will
still be a big outdoor show at Huashan in Taipei.

Notes From the Road - Day 9

This post is coming to you from the van on I85 as we head to Atlanta to spend Danny’s birthday with many friends and fellow musicians. Atlanta is where Todd and Danny met and played in a band together so this is a particularly meaningful tour stop for him. We have talked a lot this tour about the many ways in which FODfest has grown and evolved in the past 5 years. Not only has the length. And number of shows gotten bigger, but the types of venues and the network of musicians, fans, and supporters have diversified and multiplied. Every show thus far has felt like a warm welcome home… This truly is testament to the power of music to create community. And what better way to honor Danny’s life on his birthday with music and friends. We will perform during the day at Candler Park Fall Festival and then have a birthday party jam at Lake Claire Community Land Trust. Then on Monday we leave for Taiwan where we will tour for 9 days before resuming the US tour in Bloomington, Il on Oct 24. Every mile of this tour is evidence of the importance of our mission and the value of the incredible work it takes us to make it happen. Thank you for being a part of it and for fueling us along the way… PEACE + LOVE + MUSIC

Looks great. Wish I could go but have a 6am start on the 17th so won’t be able to make it this year.

too bad you won’t be able to make it craig, we will miss your wonderful photos! you could stay up all night at the party and go straight to your 6am start, but maybe that would leave you blurry eyed

To the trombone player, if you catch this, the movie I was searching my beer addeled brain for last night was “Fallen Angles” by Wong Kar Wai.

As per usual, us ramblers, vibrations, el Jefe et al were merely the catalysts. It was you guys who made it happen. So cool to see all them folks sitting out on the grass gettin’ all damn funky in they’se boots. Thank you all. In this world of hurt and pain, its sometimes nice to just, you know, chill, and listen to some tunes.
