Dealing with the heat & heatstroke

It got up to 37 degrees here today, with the ‘actual feel’ at 42. I was feeling a bit dizzy most of the day and after lunch I left the comfort of my AC-ed apartment to go to work. Walked about a dozens steps and dropped like a fly. I was up in a couple of seconds but I went back indoors and cancelled the afternoon’s class.

I’m a South African, and I’ve been through 22 sweltering SA summers, two Israeli screechers and nine Asian (Taiwan, Xiamen) saunas.

I’m surprised this happened - I’ve been do the usual things to keep as cool as possible, but this summer is taking its toll on me.

I know my blood pressure and sugar is fine, I had them checked a month ago, so that aint the problem, and I’m not dehydrated either.

What to do to keep as cool as possible, and not faint again?

Sweet Mother of Jesus. What a wuss you are!!! Drink more and whine less. You should be writing something more interesting such as about all those hot students on your campus walking around in skimpy arse shorts. Get to it.
BTW, what are the popular beers… I mean internal cooling agents… in Xiamen?

My good god - the flesh on display on a uni campus of with 20000 students is ridiculous. It’s like legs rained down from heaven. Thus I keep my shades on often :lick:

The most provocatively dressed are deffo the Taiwanese girls!

Beers? Tsingtao Regular (10% ethanol), Tsingtao Premium (20% ethanol) and, um, Tsingtao Gold (40% ethanol). And a few other brands.

What is your aerobic fitness like?

Reasonable methinks, I cycle daily (once or twice a week I do 30-40km rides). A couple of times a week I hike/jog the mountain next to my house (takes about an hour). Also swim 2-3 times a week in the ocean for 30 minutes or so.

Maybe you’re overexerting yourself (following all the arse-shorts-clad students up flights of stairs). Cut back on the exercise and perving in the heat and see if it makes a difference.

I might have to go ‘monastic’ for the remainder of summer - there’s a temple next door

water, vitamins, rest and maybe a doctors visit as it sounds like your immune system may be focused on other things.
