Dean & Deluca @ Breeze Center - now open

More of a nostalgia thing I guess, i remember when sandwiches like that were standard fare at every bakery. Or maybe they still are, I haven’t really looked    I know that one bakery across and up the street a bit from the Ambassador theater in Ximending still has them among other old-style offerings, my wife reminisces whenever she goes in

Been at D&D on Monday, or was it Tuesday … ? Anyways, I expected more of the place, looks like a glorified night market, with some brand name companies … but the BR ice cream was good … and next to it Maison Kayser had good looking bread and they seemed to have lowered prices of bread according to my escort … :ponder:

Maison Kayser looks better than it tastes, I wouldn’t waste my money there as every time we’ve tried something there, we’ve been disappointed. D&D doesn’t have half of what they used to stock these days, the cheese deli is long gone and with it most of their cold cuts. I just don’t get that place, it’s way over priced and has nothing I’d consider buying.

Glad to see we’re again fully aligned Swede  . I support 100% your input.
The ONLY thing I still buy in MK is the “Epice” style bread, with sesame seeds or moonseeds on top. they are OK. the rest is obviously aimed at the rich TWease.
I already told them they should review the design of their bags. Show-off = more sales

Absolutely spot on. Not even close to the real D&D. If only there was a real deli. There you go BP - Soup Salad Sandwich. Triple S.

Special cheese. Homemade bread and soups. Fresh salads in a variety of styles.

i was disappointed to find that they totally changed up their offerings and deli items from the first year that they opened. the whole hot deli counter is now a sushi bar and though they still have the cold deli, many of the my favorite items (sesame noodles, couscous, brie and eggplant sandwich) are gone. it seems that local tastes won out again (probably because they didn’t make enough sales with their regular stuff?)

they also are selling Mogoo popcorn there now too

Unfortunately, they didn’t have the people to make it happen. There were several members of the staff that understood. However, for the most part the staff did not have a clue what they were offering. Such a shame.

Some of their stuff is still prrrretty good, but I find something new to complain about each occasion I visit it seems. This time it was the dessert. They used to offer different cakes from 5-star hotels. No such attribute on the display items anymore. The chocolate cake I tried was dry, crumbly, too hard to penetrate with a plastic fork, and tasted like refrigerator.

They have a Baskin Robbins ice cream counter now, which seems totally out of place next to the gelato counter.

But the bakery next door with the French name is still kicking out some of the best breads and pastries I’ve had in Asia. :bravo:

You really should try Lugar, there’s one outlet in the 101, although if you go too late in the day, they’re usually sold out. They have another shop at No 3, Lane 49, Section 1, Anhe Rd as well. All of their stuff isn’t great, but they have some pretty decent stuff.

Of course if you have an unlimited budget, then Paul’s isn’t half bad when it comes to their pastries and croissants… :lick:

For apple pie the place across from gandma nitty’s isn’t half bad either. The apple and walnut cake wasn’t great, the cheese cake wasn’t fantastic and we had something else that wasn’t all that as well, but it slipped my mind what it was. Their carrot cake looks good though, but it’s been sold out twice when I was going to get some :frowning:
