"Delta Karens" - Incidents with entitled people on airplanes

She was probably drunk and that guy was just escalating the situation. Just nasty all round.

We have another (almost certainly drunk) Karen on a Delta flight, this time from LAX to Shanghai PVG . . . until the passenger taunts to the crew, boasting they would not take the cost of turning back, were met with a decision by the pilot to (you guessed it) turn back, landing in Seattle to get this clown off the plane.

Through an interpreter, this latest Karen claimed he suffered from racial discrimination, and that the service in China was better.

Guy

They are unable to manage a drunk Chinese 63 year old? Come on!

It appears the flight crew tried to reason with him, and the passenger continued to be disorderly—the pilot makes the call and turned the plane around. Well played, Karen!

I am not a regularly Delta flier at all, but in my limited experience I have found their staff to be above-and-beyond gracious. I know who I would trust here.

Guy

Could be worse.

He didn’t get punished in any way by Delta, which makes me suspicious about which class he was flying in. Even so, surely cabin crew should be able to handle disorderly passengers without ruining everyone else’s flight?

When the pilot comes out of the cockpit to handle a disorderly situation, there’s a fair chance the flight route will be adjusted.

I hope this twit gets put on a no fly list. If he loves Chinese service, let him fly China Eastern next time.

Guy

The crew mentioned the strong odor of alcohol coming from him. I wonder if the concern was less about his behavior and more about how much alcohol he’d consumed before boarding, his age, and the length of the flight.

The alcohol itself might not be fatal, but drinking heavily could make him more susceptible to falls (esp in the bathroom), a blood clot if he were to pass out in his seat and not move for a while, or aspiration while passed out, or some cardiac event.

That said, it is odd that Delta didn’t seem to punish him nor did he get arrested coming off the flight in Seattle.
