Diagnosing Cushing's Syndrome

Cushing’s Syndrome is an endocrinal condition. I happened upon the name by accident, but the symptoms it describes are incredibly accurate for me as well as one of the main causes for it: taking glucocorticoid hormones such as prednisone (which I took for a few months as part of treatment for something else when I was 15).
What kind of doctor would one need to see in order to properly diagnose Cushing’s Syndrome? Can such a doctor be found in Taiwan or would I need to return to the US to find out whether or not I have it?

Well, not to be too much a stater of the obvious, but you probably need an endocrinologist? You must be able to get hold of one in Taipei - the Adventist seems to have a fairly comprehensive collection of specialists, but I imagine any major hospital would. There’s a list you can get of all the specialists they have but I can’t seem to find mine at the moment or I’d check.

Sorry, wasn’t aware that they had those here… So I suppose the next question to ask is where can I find a good endocrinologist in Taipei? A hospital that would be the best place to go? Like Mackay since it’s so close to me? How about Cathay which is the closest hospital to my job? Adventist is far from me and it seems that if I need to a specialist, it’s going to require me to take time off work so something close to where I live or work would be best. Thanks for the help, daasgrl.

No idea where you can find such a doc but be carefull with those internet diagnoses, they can make you (think you are) very sick.
I rekon you see a general practitioner first and let him make a diagnosis, then only see if it requires specialist treatment.

Imani, Long time no post on my part, but PM me. I see a great doc at Chung Shan for a thyroid condition. He is very busy, but very good. His name is Dr. Fang (the only dr. fang at the hospital)… let me know if you need more info.

Oh, endocrinology has something to do with thyroid condition!? - Just came back an hour ago from seing the specialist at Adventist hospital regarding that since I had reason to suspect there is something wrong with it (had been diagnosed when I was a kid but never affected me). Left some blood last week and today the result was available - as usual nothing wrong with me, just the advise I heard before: more sleep, less stress and … I should loose some weight / should exercise.

Well, better than being really sick and can’t really vouch for the doc since the encounter was rather brief only.

I started getting the symptoms right after I started taking the drug that they mention specifically, and I took it for longer than a lot people who get this syndrome. I’ve always had the feeling that it caused a lot of trouble for me, so it was strange to find out that there was a name for my problem after all this time. Besides, it never hurts to know either way.

Rascal, you should have kicked the doctor in the shin and said, “Now give me a second opinion or I’ll kick the other one.”
