Digicam review thread

Thought Id start a Digital camera review thread where all the other threads can be merged perhaps?

My review will be on the just released Kodak M575 digicam.

Has Schneider lens (German maker of movie cam lens), 14megapixel. 28mm to 140mm (nice range) effective. Anti shake, facial seeking, 1050p or 720p mov file, 5x zoom, 3 inch screen.

I like that its kind of robust feeling, seems to be made of metal as its not super light, not super small either. Some cameras are just too small to hold nicely.

Picture quality is just ok, not as good as Leica (found on Lumix) or Carl Zeiss (found on Sony) but matching Nikon and Canon lens for digicams.

The 1050p vid didnt seem better but I suppose it may be.

One bad thing , I used my office computer when i first plugged in the cam and it downloaded kodak software onto the computer. Apparently as a one time deal only. Because it did NOT do that on my home puter when i plugged it in.

What is really bad is that the pictures can open just fine with windows software but i could not get the vids i made to open. They are .mov files so i downloaded various players for those, including Real Player, VLC media player, Quicktime player, Uplayer. NOthing could play those files for some reason. Perhaps only the Kodak proprietary software that i loaded onto the office puter can open that?

I hope I didnt delete that. The cam did NOT come with a CD with software.

All in all, as long as I can solve the .mov playing problem its not a bad cam for 99 plus tax. Its the same price as a similar Sony cam (with Sony not Carl Zeiss lens) but with only 720pm .mov capability.

It feels good in the hand, seems like a quality made piece (as far as a cheap digicam goes). Picture quality a bit below what i expected but the 14 megapixel means the pics can be blown up quite a bit and still retain good detail.
