Dirt Cheap Hostels in Hong Kong

Does anyone know of a really cheap and nasty place to stay in Kowloon, in the science museum area?

Umm, Chunking Mansions?

there’s a pretty cheap place on there, something like $20US/night…I don’t know where in Hong Kong it’s located though…that hostel can also hook you up with Mainland Visas.

If you get a dirt-cheap room at Chungking, stay away from the equally dirt-cheap Indian prostitutes hanging around the front lobby 24/7. Don’t make eye contact with the tough-nut African gangsters who stare at you with that psychotic glare.

I guess what I’m saying is - it’s a pretty grotty place. It’s dirt cheap for a reason.

New Garden Hostel (name may have changed), 13th Floor, Mirador Mansions, Nathan Road. Cheap but clean mixed (M/F) dorm - HK$70 per night, I think. Terrace for drying clothes. No lockers. Owned by Shanghainese Li family who keep it shipshape. They have single and double rooms, too. I’ve never stayed at the Cosmic hostel on the 12th floor, but it looks OK. Do go to Chungking Mansions for curry.

The Hong Kong YHA will open an urban hostel eventually - somewhere around Mong Kok.

Yes, the Mirador mansions (which is just up the road from the Chungking Slums) was certainly the better choice when I was last in Honkers about four years ago.
