How many of you have life insurance? I’ve had some since my son was born, and it does have hospital-cost provisions, though I don’t have the details at hand. Critical-injury insurance is another possibility - perhaps something those of you without dependants might consider, even if you think there’s no need to have your life insured.
That’s wonderful that you have obtain such securties. Could you offer details about how someone would go about getting this information and what companies would be able to help out?
I’m not able to advise anyone re insurance. Ask around and your friends will introduce you to an insurance agent they know and trust, and he/she will be able to answer your questions.
This may not apply to you, but critical-injury insurance is often sold to single people when they apply for mortgages, so they don’t lose their home during the weeks/months they’re in hospital.

Well are there any companies you know of hand, whereas, people can begin a preliminary search before asking others.

It’s not always easy for people to find out about this stuff. I’m looking around for a new insurance policy at the moment, and I’ll post back with anything I find.
One thing is that this kind of insurance is often cheaper when a group of people do it together. My old insurance was arranged by my old boss in collaboration with some other school owners, so it was pretty cheap. I think it might be hard to find that kind of deal as an individual.

You can try Sunlife financial(formerly Clarica). This product is very important and is definately for married folks as well as singles. Which is greater, the odds of premature death or getting a serious illness? This product will cover a list of serious illnesses and provide a lump sum of tax free cash in the event you get one of these diseases. This is not going to help you in the event you get injured and miss weeks or months from work, that’s a different product.

Hey Nama,
Take a look at this page re: life insurance basic types. Another place to get more information and shop around would be Insurance Finder portal
There are many many reputable insurance companies in the US so I wouldn’t try to make a recommendation. The DIY route is fine so long as you’re prepared. But a general agent who is able to sell many company policies would be a very good place to start as well. For that, I’d check with usual network/reliable sources (church is a good place to start).
question about cancer insurance, there is no cancer history in my family so I have the min coverage for cancer. Is that ok? you can get cancer some other ways and you never know. what do you guys have for cancer insurance?
If you feel comfortable with that level then that is fine. Insurance is just that, in case something happens, so you must assess the risk and then cover yourself
What I haven’t found here in Taiwan is income protection. Income protection is where you get paid for a period of time a % of your income, else if you die your dependant gets a % of your income. I would like to find this type of insurance
