Can anyone tell me where I can find a good phone card to call the uk.I have been using a free card from 7/11 so far.
Also I am looking for a bus map as I can’t read the symbols on the busstop yet and don’t have enough money to buy a scooter or car yet.
There are two bus guides available from Eslite and PageOne that have Taipei bus routes. Both are NT120. One has a stylized route maps but they are both only in Chinese. I’ve not seen one in English. I’d love to find an English one for visitors/family.
Not that the route maps help. I 've caught a bus that has a stop called “Blah Blah Junior High School”. When you look out of the bus it’s a car park with no school in sight. I found out later that the school is a couple of hundred metres away but this is the stop’s name! Aargh! Or the Wuxing Street Bus that NEVER goes up or down Wuxing street but one that runs parallel to it!
Finally! I have noticed in the last few weeks that somebody has been around all the bus stops in Neihu and posted all of the routes in English

Has anybody seen this recently in other parts of Taipei?
The best card I have found to call the UK is the red one thats normally in the number 8 slot behind the counter. Its 200NT and you get 29 minutes to the UK either land line or mobile any time of day. If there is a better one out there please let me know!
I use ipbb calling card. But I am not sure this is the best one to call UK.
Please ckeck ipbbnet.com/AK804.htm
I was told that some bookstores sell really cheap calling cards. But they’re hard to find. Where do you folks get yours? MacKay seems complicated with the membership feature.
Basically I want a phone card which gives me considerably cheaper rates for ringing China and Hong Kong - the same kind of thing that China/HK students might be using here to call home?
I would be calling from my house phone, but looking for a way to reduce the bills and still have good quality to landlines elsewhere (I tend to get crap quality calling the Mainland from Skype - darn Firewall of China).
Thanks,
Alex
Is it possible to get a phonecard for phoning the UK and Australia?
If so, which one and where to I get it from?
This probably doesn’t help, but why not use skype?
If you don’t have a computer, you can probably find one at an internet cafe (or your hotel/hostel if you’ve just arrived). If you do, wireless is everywhere, incl in the MRT. I believe that you can buy skype recharge cards at family mart, but I’m not sure.
If not, try any convenience store. They must sell calling cards, and give rates. I don’t think it would be difficult. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. Good luck
