Disposable phones for temporary use?

I think this is a long shot. Do they even sell these here? As if for people who are here on vacation and need a cell to have while they’re here?

Why don’t you rent one on the airport? Or just rent the card and put it in your existing phone?

They cost about $30NT. Just get on the MRT (make sure you pay, don’t want to do anyting illegeal) and look around the trains for that person who is sleeping. Everyone in this country has a cell, so just ‘borrow’ it until your vacation is over. You should get a few good days, if not a week before the guy figures out that it was taken from him instead of just misplaced.

A lot of times they come with a really nice wallet and watch if you need to rent some of those as well. :s

Are you SURE this is possible? I have never heard of it.
Where is the phone rental stand?

Will a phone from canada work here? I don’t think they are set up for SIM cards. He needs a phone so he can get in touch with me. I know no one who can loan me a phone or a card.

It will only work if it’s a GSM dual- or triband phone. Not sure about 3G (if that’s available in Canada, dunno).

Cell phones from North America don’t work outside North America. For some reason they are made differently and the cell services are programmed differently. It sucks for those of us travelling around needing a cell overseas and another one back home.

:noway: Not all cell phones. If you have a tri-band or quad-band cell phone from North America or any other country and you’re able to insert a SIM Card, it will work in Taiwan…if it’s unlocked

There are 3 different cell phone providers that rent cell phones as soon as you arrive in Taiwan at CKS airport. You have a choice of a couple of phones and if you’re only going to be in the country for a short time it might be worth it.

Another way is to find a SECOND-HAND cell phone shop once you are at your destination city or town. There you’ll be able to find a cheap phone for as little as $1000 (or less). Or you could buy yourself a nicer phone (tri-band or quad-band) and bring it back to Canada with you. Be sure to ask if it is unlocked. In Canada, you’ll only be able to use the phone with ROGERS or FIDO…but it might be worth it if you want to have a cool phone that no one else will have. www.phonedaily.com this website will give you an idea of what Taiwan has to offer.

Happy Phone Shopping,
