One real estate agent I saw bowed to us here. Security guard at the school bows, only one of them… I secretly think it is people guilty of something, or are screwing you over in some way, are the ones that bow here.

Now I’m curious. The wai (bowing with hands together as if praying) is found in all the Theravada Buddhist countries of SEA, but is that because Sri Lanka invented it, or does it have a different lineage?
Most Chinese Buddhist monks would greet with the wai as well. As a result, many devout Chinese Buddhists used to greet with the wai. They would say a localized form of Nama Amitabha Buddha as they slightly bow.
