well talking bars aside i was kinda proud of myself this PM when i took my bike the 3 miles down ocean beach (great hway) to the Ocean Plant Cafe. Which is my Pitstop for a coffee before heading back. And it was a gorgeous day. October is SF’s Summer !! Was 22c which is HOT by our standards. and usually brings out the girls in bikini but today was quite windy so the bikini stayed covered with hot pants. good nuff.
this cafe has a couple seats out on the patio facing the ocean so a coupla high chairs and a bar type place to put your coffee. Sitting and sippin coffee while looking at the ocean. a great view.
The cafe was rather empty but i observed this young lady coming up the stairs to the cafe. YOu can enter thru the main entrance or this side entrance past the patio into the cafe, an entrance a lot of people use myself included. My bike is tied up on the railing to the stairs so its not going anywhere.
anyhoos. observed this young lady. jeans, backpack, asian, maybe late 20s , early 30s? Who knows with asians could be early 40s. All the better.
saw her walk by and thought “hmmm” a nice lookin lady.
MInutes later she took one of the three stools at the “bar” im on one and theres the empty middle one and theres her at the other end a few feet away. I thought after giving her a min to settle in and bring out her phone and stare at it. Myself i leave my phone at home and use my watch/fone so i dont have to keep staring at the screen for a while.
anyhoos. thought i would bother her and say hi. what the heck right? I said “oh super weather isnt it?” and it truly was for anyone san franciscan. She hesitated a moment before responding, probably computing whether i was a freak , a bum, or some sort of pervert?? Then she said “yes its quite nice” (in excellent english so she was not fresh off the boat). I quickly followed with. OH but its kinda windy so nobody sunbathing today and nobody in the water. She said "oh people swim here? "Which told me she was not local. i said “usually only surfers in wet suits but occasionally some brave souls , and the water is super cold !!” I kept the conversation light and fast so as to not have an uncomfortable “lull” while not appearing too anxious.
Lucky for me she was not local. Because at this point a local girl would probably have either “had to go” or she “had to go” .
Turns out she was from NYC OH goody. i could then find topics related to NYC and my own experiences there and hers etc.
Found shes been there for over ten years , arrived as a student in college, still in college apparently. But that allowed me to ask her what shes done in the bay area and wanted to do, found out whats shes done and what she ould like to do. Napa, she would like to do napa, so i suggested a coupla wineries good to visit . Mondavi, currently closed for renovation, Chandon for the excellent champagne and tour and this other one i forget. So i chatted with her for bout ten mins and the lady came and said “we closing at 5pm you got ten mins”. So at that point told her im tommy , asked her name and suggested leaving her my number so we can talk more about the bay area . She was leaving this evening on a redeye back to nyc.
I had my bike and she was on foot but since i was miles from the house it was awkward to ask her if she could wait for me for 30 mins while i pedal home and came back in my car. I was going to suggest driving her over the GG bridge and she can see the GG bridge from the marin headlands. But then this is the USA and stranger danger is real and everyone knows it so she would be unlikely to accept a ride from a stranger…because who knows she could never be seen again.
So she politely declined (understood) and that was that.
i wished her a pleasant flight home.
I thought i did give her my number so maybe she will call one day? Probably not!
Then i thought OH. wait, she had me call myself from her phone (because i told her i didnt have my phone with me and i wanted to just leave her my number). So when i got home, i texted her my contact info. including where i worked and where i lived. Becuase i didnt want her to think i was some crazy dude who wanted to get into her pants. I was actually just a normal guy who wanted to get into her pants if the opportunity presented itself properly of course. I mean why else would a guy want to hit on you anyway right ?
Anyway. i rarely venture out to actually speak to someone these days out in the wild, but this was FUN.
In taiwan i have no trouble doing what i did today . just going up and talkin to em, but here? Its kinda seen as not the usual thing to do except maybe in bars.
Well she actually texted me back and thanked me for all the recommendations and suggested she will be in touch. That was nice of her. made an old guy happy. MIght never get another text from her but who knows right?
Just go to Linsen N. Rd. and you’ll find 'em. You can also find 'em in the Zone. Probably won’t speak English though, maybe some of them will speak Japanese.
had to google this
Gooning is a sexual practice involving prolonged masturbation to a state of intense sexual arousal without reaching climax, often in an obsessive or trance-like state. It is an extension of edging, where the individual repeatedly stimulates themselves to the point of orgasm, but stops just before climax to prolong the experience and maximize pleasure. The term “gooning” has also become associated with a lifestyle and online communities centered around this practice, sometimes involving the use of multiple screens and adult content.
“It can also mean acting foolishly or being a thug, but these meanings are less common online… and in a specific context, it refers to supporters of the Arsenal Football Club.”
As an aside, if you’ve never been to Mayacamas, that’s a sweet winery to visit if you’re into wines (or just have a day and a couple hundred bucks to kill (note they require a reservation)). Great wines, and a gorgeous site with a great tour (visit the estate, not the downtown tasting room). Went there a few years ago and a step (or 8) above most places in Napa.
Will look it up thanks
At least this was a real person I talked to and not online
Don’t I get a cookie for this ?
Chocolate chip or oatmeal please
Ps never heard of the place and that’s probably cuz I didn’t pay attention
Tours are one hour and cost 135
Or 165 for 90 mins
By comparison Mondavi had a great two hour tour for about 45 bucks
And the other place with a great castle Castello di Amorosa is only 75 for near two hours tour and tasting so mayacamas you need to be a serious enthusiast at those prices
Amorosas
Does have more expensive tours tho as much as 195 for a more comprehensive program
I’m mister el cheapo tho and don’t care bout wine THAT much lol
