Do you split rent/bills with your partner?

I have had a few leg ups and connections . Too long ago to remember the details

I would envy you if I found the energy that it takes.

Apologies , I held the D down for too long . Typing on phone… too lazy to change

It wasn’t energy. It’s staying power (titter).
Seriously folks need to get out of poor paying industries like English teaching to make any decent money. Don’t join a sinking ship.

Then you need to learn some Chinese, a couple of professional qualifications or degrees.
But mostly it’s just about going through the drudgery’ some hard times and gaining experience .
Actually it could all go tomorrow but I’m saying it’s possible to better yourself substantially here . It did take me the best part of two decades though !

No need to apologize. You don’t get paid for correct spelling. That’s why you make the big bucks.

So he has a very particular set of skills?

I get paid per Ellipsis…

We are often together here.

Not sure, but there is this point to consider

I’m considering that (again). Taking some courses from Coursera perhaps, trying to learn some Chinese (perhaps, perhaps), and trying to remove my Moldavian accent from my English too (perhaps, perhaps, perhaps).

Sexist!

Sex priest:

The straight up trulth, and apologise if it is off topic, is that Taiwan is a leaky ship itself.
So you are fighting against the tide trying to get a good income here. I’ve got my last two jobs from overseas, effectively importing my job. I was also unemployed for one year in between (another Long story…).

If you want to earn more it’s usually much easier and quicker option to move elsewhere!
I regret not doing that when younger actually. There’s so much of beating your head against a brick wall that is not worth it.

If your wife earns more it’s not necessarily a bad thing , more money is always good.

But if she earns more at Taiwan level wages you really got to look at where you are going .

I would be going to the Shops :smirk:

This is true. Luckily, I began funding my retirement during the boom years. If I was starting out now, I don’t think I’d stick around in Taiwan for very long.

The ultimate irony is I stick around now because I am doing much better now than if I was to go back to my home country, what with the taxes, housing prices, higher cost of almost everything .
Before when I was going relatively poor I’d justify it by pure muleheadness and saying I wasn’t going back with the tail between my legs (really dumb but thats the way I actually thought about it).

There’s always a reason that I give myself to stay I guess.

Oh dear. I, on the other hand , bought expensive cars , holidays , and had a great time . I thought ā€œ I am here for a good time , not a long time ā€œ . Sadly , I am having to work harder now … damn . And it’s raining hard in Taichung
