Does anyone have a pet cat?

My wife wants a kitty, but they are so expensive here! The other day we found one we liked but it cost 25 000! Needless to say we put it back in the display window where it will probably be for a long time to come. For 25 000, I can fly home, buy a cat and fly back!

The price I had in mind for a cat was about two or three thousand. Is that just being stupid? If any of you bought a cat in Taipei for less than your arm and leg, where do you recommend I look? On the other hand, if anyone knows of a kitten looking for a home, we are happy to adopt.

Look in the pets and other animals forum. People are giving them away.

Yes, PLEASE don’t pay for animals here in Taiwan. There are plenty of sweet, loveable strays needing homes. See the Pets & Animals thread, the AnimalsTaiwan.org website, go to the City “Shelters” (actually killing Pounds) and rescue one from death row, or PM Stray Dog or 914 and they will help you find the ideal pet for you!!! Or come visit us outside Asiaworld (Nanjing/Dunhua, in Taipei) this Sunday between 1 and 5 pm – we’ll have live pups there, pictures and contact info for adopting cats and dogs, and we might have some kittens or cats too (stay tuned)!

914 and myself each has a kitten looking for a good home. Need a patient, understanding owner, as they are still learning how to socialize with humans - mine more so.

Let us know - you can try one out for a period.

Cheers!

Sean

Thanks for all your responses. I have only been in Taipei for a few months so I appreciate the advice.

914 and Stray Dog: how old are the kittens you have? I would like a young kitten so that I can train it well.

Dragonbones: Thanks. I will come see what animals you have on Sunday.

Ps: Sorry about posting this on the wrong forum. I am new to Forumosa as well.

I can vouch for the quality of the kitties from 914 & stray dog.

We got the cutest, killer cat from them.

How’s she doing? Didn’t pick up any fleas from 914 did she?

I need to get that cage from you, too …

Sirakwai, 914 knows exactly how old they are, but I’m guessing about seven or eight weeks. But watch me get proven wrong.

They’re very nice looking cats. Ginger and white (one more ginger; one more white). They are now getting used to human contact. My own cat was wild when we rescued her, and she was quite hostile for a week or so, then she just caved in and turned cute and affectionate. She’s now the greatest pet cat in the world, hands down.

Are you interested? You can take them both if you like, as they really adore each other; we split them up to make it easier to ‘break’ them.

Hi! Here is a photo of Orange. We separated her and White (the one at Stray Dog’s house) because as a team they were the most vicious kitties. Alone, Orange is the funniest girl around. She chases my older cats. I don’t think she has any idea that they just want to sleep and eat and not play for five hours straight.

Name: Orange
Date of birth: Approx. April 1, 2005
Sex: Female
Weight: 1.25 kg

Medical history:
Defleaed June 1
Dewormed (combo pill for all intestinal worms) June 28
Bathed June 28
Eye drops 3 times/day starting June 28 to July 5 (stray kitties usually have slight eye infection. Nothing a good eye drop won’t take care of)

To be done July 5:
First set of 5 in 1 shot, rabies, and maybe Feline Infectious Peritonitis, I’ll have to research that

Me&the girl have four cats. All of which, except one we picked up outside. If you go out at night, check the smaller side streets. You usually can see whole family’s of cats hanging out or hiding under cars. Keep looking and soon enough you’ll hear a little ‘meow’ coming from an abandoned kitten crying for it’s mother. Pick it up, take it home, clean it up and love it to death! You will become much more happy finding and saving a little soul then tossing your money away in a pet store!

PS, if you find one and it is a girl, as soon as she is about six months old. Get her fixed! There is nothing more nerve wrecking then a female cat in heat moaning at 4:30AM a few feet away from you for ten days straight!

I KNOW OF A GREAT PET SHOP WHERE YOU CAN PIC UP A COUPLE OF KITTENS FOR FREE I ALWAYS TAKE MY CATS THERE.
MY FRIEND FOUND # STRAYS THE OTHER WEEK THEY ARE REAL SMALL AND LOOKING FOR A HOME BUT THE PROBLEM IS ITS NOT IN TAIPEI ITS IN NANKAN TAOYUAN WHICH IS ONLY 40 mins on the bus for 50nt they have 2 kittens left. 1 small pure white cat and another

you may need some one to speak chinese for you as only the vets wife speaks english

Ooh, that is not a very good idea, as that’s why Orange was nasty for the first month she was here. Never take kittens or puppies that are under three months old from their mom. They’re still feeding. But NaTaS is right, do NOT support pet stores that sell pets. You have no idea the horrid conditions of kitten and puppy mills.

Actually, you should fix either boy or girl cats, not just the females. It’s the boys that sneak out lookin for lovin’ :howyoudoin:

Stray Dog,

The cage is ready for it’s return - anytime this or next week. We’ll be away for the weekend.

drop me a pm

Please do not buy pets from breeders in Taiwan… unless you can be absolutely sure of the conditions…

On top of that, there are so many strays here. You can literally go for a walk and pick up a kit. My wife and I hand-reared 5 stray kittens and found homes for them over the past few years.

There are also surpirisingly a few locals who do genuinely do care for animals and will be willing to donate them.

I seem to remember that Yahoo.TW auctions seemed to have quite a few pets going for free. In addition there are pet shelters that try to find homes for pets…

Regards,

Daryl

Where are the pet shelters you mention? Particularly those in the Taipei area.

Here is an article which mentions Taipei shelters, just FYI:

The address of Taipei Animal Shelter is
852, Tan Mei Street, Neihu District, TAIPEI 114
according to this page:

Try looking through the vet list here:

forumosa.com/viewtopic.php?t=25795

Many, if not most of those vets will have stray kittens looking for homes. Call them and find out.

Or I’ll find you one form my local park.

This kitten is less than 2 months old. It is at Dr Simon Kuo’s Veterinary Hospital in Tienmu. (Chung Shan North Road, Section 6, No. 314, Tel: 02-2831-5677.)

havilina, you’ve gotta learn how to post pics! You need to remove the second “[img=” and the second to last “]”.

Basically, type the URL, then highlight it, then click “Img”. Do not put the “[img= … ]” in yourself.

Now try it again!

Here is what Havilina’s pic should look like:

It’s just a matter of ensuring that the URL be preceded by .

Animalstaiwan.og had a beautiful ginger tabby up for adoption outside AsiaWorld this afternoon.
