Does anyone know anything about this building in Taipei?

That’s a tough question now:
On the way to the Immigrations office I discovered this cool old big house, the walls all covered in plants… it’s right between the Botanical garden and the National Theater (close to the Botanical garden). it’s in this historical area, but on the grounds is no explanation about it. It looks quite amazing and mysterious. I’m going to put a picture up as soon as I get there again - but for now here’re are the gps coordinates…
maybe somebody of you knows anything about it?

According to Google Maps there is the “自由之家‎” - Freedom House. It’s an “historical site” but the english name just leads to an organization about press freedom etc.

Here is some more random info in Chinese:

名稱 自由之家
等級 直轄市定古蹟
類別 古蹟
行政區 中正區
地址 臺北市中正區愛國西路16號
年代 民國四十六年(西元一九五七年)

Nice find on the link, olm. A blurb there relates the history of the site as a sort of an anti-communist conference center during the old days. I had often wondered what that building was myself.

The building was orginally a residence for the Japanese president of the Bank of Taiwan. A profile of this property is included in Historical Sites in Taipei II. You really should have a look through the following English/Chinese books.
