Can anyone recommend a place which takes cats as boarding ( going off island for a few weeks and need someone to take care instead of leaving them with friends ).

Check NTU’s animal hospital or veterinary school… I’ve heard that they have a good pet hotel.
I was wondering if any dog owners out there have found any kennels which would look after dogs for a few weeks. Not just cages to lock the animals in but decent kennels that would walk the dogs or allow them somewhere to free play. I have a couple of Danes so it would need to be somewhere that accepts bigger dogs. I realize that quality kennels up to UK standards might be difficult to find in Taiwan, but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

My dog is at a great kennel right now, while I am visiting family in the States. The kennel is in Taoyuan, but they come out and pick up my dog. They have large cages with runs and and open field for free running/playing. The folks there ask all types of questions re your dog and seem quite concerned with the health and general well-being of the dogs they board.
PM me and I’ll post the web site for the kennel when I get back to Taipei on January 1st.
Here’s the site for the great kennel where my dog stays when we go away (we call it “camp”):
The site is Chinese only, but if you don’t read/speak Chinese, you can get someone to help.
The kennel folks come out and pick up your pooch in a doggiemobile and then bring him back when you return. Previously, we put our dog in a pet shop kennel in Taipei (Taishun Street over by Shihda Rd) and that place was terrible… and the kennel we use now is actually less expensive! NT$ 400/day… NT$ 500 to pick up the dog and NT$ 500 to return the dog.

Any other ideas for decent places to keep a dog ? planning to go back to the UK for 2 weeks vaca. We always used to use the pet shop around the corner from our place, they only charged NT$250 a day, they even take him out for a couple walks per day but last time we went away our dog ended getting bad eyes… at one point we thought he was going to go blind. I guess the cats in the shop

Hi. We just came back from a two-week stint in Europe and our dog stayed at the dogtrain kennel. We originally planned to go with a place which Tigerman also suggested in a previous thread when I asked the same question: (http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?t=25856) We had visited and liked this one: http://www.doggohome.com.tw/. The dogs would have “free play” most of the day and would be taken out for walks twice a day, nights spent in cages that looked spacious enough (we have a lab, don’t know whether it’d work for great danes). Unfortunately after having made a reservation during our visit there, they called me back and said that they would do a refurbishment during that period and would I mind coming some other time? … :s
We then opted for the dogtrain place even though we hadn’t seen it ourselves (no time left to go & take a look) and they did seem to be very professional, the guy who came and picked up our pooch seemed very nice and competent. When our dog was returned though, we were not as impressed. He was very dirty and looked a bit neglected, had two open sores on his front “elbows” if that’s the right word and had the runs. Granted, each point on its own doesn’t seem so bad, but the overall impression wasn’t as we had hoped/expected. We’ll definitely try the doggohome place next time. Tigerman, you seem to have longer experience with the dogtrain place, never any problems? Would be interesting to hear how it went this time, maybe they had a change in staff or so? Hey, maybe our dogs met at the kennel … Did you ever use the doggohome kennel for your dog?
Neighbours of ours who went away for about the same time took their dog to a dog school on Yanming Shan which also takes paying guests, they have yet to give me the details to that place, will post as soon as I get them, apparently their experience there was very good … Xpet.
I’ve heard that this place is no longer at the original location… maybe they are simply doing some renovations.
That was our impression, too.
When we used the place in Taoyuan, Dofu came home looking a bit dirty and he had a cold. I would have preferred him to have been cleaner, and I didn’t blame them for his cold.
I wonder how your guy got his open sores, though. The runs… well, that could I suppose be attributed to many things, including the psychological affect of being separated and perhaps a bit different diet.
I don’t really have all that much experience with kennels… I just know that I don’t like leaving Dofu in a small cage for any extended period of time. Most of the places we’ve left Dofu (even a place recommended by wolf reinhold) have not been ideal, IMO, and Dofu always returns filthy and thinner.
We did put him in the doggohome place once and that seemed to be pretty nice, comparatively speaking. I do hope they re-open for business.
Look forward to seeing the info on this place.
So are there any good kennels? I would be a bit worried about taking my dog to the kennel suggested in this thread, what with all the talk about diarrhea and scraped elbows and reduced weight.
That was probably kennel cough.
It’s a good idea to get your dog vaccinated against this a couple of weeks before boarding a dog anywhere where there will be a number of other dogs. In fcat, make sure your dog has had all its vaccinations recently (within last five years).
Cheers!
Sean
My wife told me that she saw a kennel that looked nice (only saw it from the outside) just off Jinshan Rd at about Jinhwa St. (on the right/west side going south on Jinshan… but, its not on Jinshan and it could be the lane/street before or after Jinhwa St.). I will try to get an address for the same soon. Can’t promise anything, though, as I am busy preparing to leave for the US on Thursday. I’ll try.
There is also a nice-looking boarding facility at the ‘doggie shopping mall’ in Neihu, on the road just south of Costco / RT Mart / Yellow Hat. Sorry I don’t have the address, but I’ll see if I can find a number. It’s a little pricey, but the rooms are very comfortable, almost like a hotel room, and the dogs get exercised on the large, sheltered roof of the building. You can also choose from a number of diets.
Good luck!
Sean
I hope this becomes a sticky
I recently had to a visa run to Okinawa and needed a kennel for my Chocky to stay at. Tigerman suggested I checked out a kennel called KIT.
For the 4 days and 3 days, I was charged $3800. For the price, he was given two baths, and provided with food and doggie treats. And to my suprise, trained him how to ride a scooter ,something I could never convince him to do. They also kept him at one of their homes when the shop was closed. As a parting gift, they took pictures, gave him a doggie bone and two cans of premium dog food, at no additional charge. I’ve also noticed a difference in his behavior, as in they provide some training that I’ve missed. Overall, I got back a better dog!!! The staff,IMO, is very well trained and versed in how to deal with dogs as well as genuine in providing a good service and care for your dog. They charge based upon the size and weight of your dog. They also take care of cats, and I am guessing, other small animals.
I hope that anyone who needs a kennel for their love ones give them high consideration in using them. I am certain you won’t be disappointed with them.

They are near the intersection of Roosevelt road sec 1 and ning bao st. From Roosevelt road turn right on ning bao walking toward CKS, on Jin Hua(1st street down from Roosevelt) make a right hand turn. Walk about 3 blks and you will see them on the right.
They speak very limited english, but are happy to try! Also, if you bring your dog, cat, etc make sure you bring your animal’s ‘passort’ book.
Hi, Namahottie.
So, was that 4 days, 3 nights? It’s a little pricey, but it does sound good. And if the animal is well cared for (and better behaved when you get it back), then I believe it’s worth it.
How heavy is Chocky?
Do they keep the dog in a cage?
Many thanks for posting this.
Sean
As for it being pricey, I can’t say I really know, because I’ve only used one other place and that place charged $500 a day for bording. But they were so generous and kind that I wouldn’t mind paying for that service again. I’m a firm believer that you should pay well for anything that has value. Chocky is roughly 25-27kg.
As far as I know, they use cages when needed, I guess only for night. But then again they took Chocky home with them I think on Friday and Saturday night,Saturday night for sure because Sunday they were closed. Otherwise, when I’ve gone there the dogs I’ve seen were playing in an enclosed carpeted area that was very clean. And in the back they have ‘beauty salon’. Overall the place looks, and smells very clean.
Hopefull we can make a kennel sticky, which I would be happy to help out with.
We found a good place close to our house in Taipei. It’s a very small establishment (they live upstairs from the kennel). We were very happy with their service. They charge NT$250, take your dog out for walks, and bathe him/her if you use their boarding service for a certain number of days. Our dog was returned seemingly happy and with no problems at all.
The place is in the Nangang area (close to Grace Academy and Chung Hsiao Hospital). They have delivery service.

Again, a very small place and willing to cater to any special needs (our flight arrived late and we didn’t get to the place until around midnight to pick up our dog but they didn’t have any problems with that).
Hey All,
I know there was a post awhile ago about where to keep dogs while away but figured I’d bring it up again. Any new info on it.
I’m gonna be gone for a weekend so only talking 3 nights but want to make sure it’s a good place. I’m in Taoyuan county so any input would be great.
If you want to bring it up again, please do so in the existing thread. It is tidier that way.
Ok, thanks. So does anyone have any new information about a good one in Taoyuan?
Does anyone know of any places where you can leave a dog more long term. I am going over to China for 2mths, back for 1mth, then China again… will continue this schedule for about 6mths.
We would like to have the dog with us while back in Taiwan, but he would need to be in kennels for 4mths… whilst not desirable we are not sure what other options there are… We usually leave buddy in a kennel around the corner from us for NT$400 a day.
