Don't be fooled by stupid Tommy Hilfiger Internet hoax

Someone at work sent the below false, defamatory and old Internet hoax to a few dozen people, telling us all to avoid buying Hilfiger clothes based on it. I don’t care so much about Tommy Hilfiger personally – I never met the guy – but it bothers me to see ignorant people perpetuating stupid Internet hoaxes. You’d have to be an idiot to believe Hilfiger could be so stupid.

Apparently several years after this made the rounds in English someone translated it to Chinese and decided to spread the bullshit further. Just thought I’d tell you, it’s completely false. See:

And here’s the hoax:

I am sure many of you watched the recent taping of the Oprah Winfrey show in Chicago where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger. On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true. Statements like “if I’d known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish and Asians would buy my clothes, I WOULD NOT have made them so nice. I wish these people would NOT buy my clothes, as they (my clothes) are made for upper-class white people.” His answer to Oprah was a simple “YES” where after she immediately asked him to leave her show. Suggestion? Don’t buy your next shirt or perfume from Tommy Hilfiger. Let’s give him what he asked for. Let’s not buy his clothes, let’s put him in a financial state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes. If we are small, then send it to the whole community that’s not white people and see the result. We! have to see the result of unity. Let’s find out if Asian, Jews and Non-white really plays such a small part in the world. Stop buying all range of Hilfiger products, perfume, cosmetics, Clothes, bags, etc. A scene also took place on a BA (British Airway) flight between Johannesburg and London. A white woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. “Madam, what is the matter?” the hostess asked. “You obviously do not see it then?” She responded. “You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat.” “Be calm please,” the hostess replied. “Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available.” The hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later. “Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is one seat in the business class. All the same, we also have one seat in the first class.” Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued: “It is unusual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting.” She then turned to the black guy, and said, “Therefore, sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class.” At the moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded. This is a true story. IF you are against racism, please send this message to all your friends; please do not delete it without sending it to at least one person.
:loco:

Wow. Is snopes.com down? I wonder how you pay someone to translate chain mail. :loco: indeed.

That bastard! I’m never buying any of his clothes. Who is he again? That too-big pants guy? I never bought any of his clothes anyway. Not because he’s a racist but because his designs are simply bufugly. That woman on the plane guy, too. She can just forget it. I’m buying some Levis instead. Let some other sucker buy her hooded sweatshirts!

Well…the TH email may be false, but I bet this one is true!
A Marine, a Dog and a French woman were riding on a train…

The train was quite crowded, so a U. S. Marine walked the entire length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was taken by a well dressed, middle-aged, French woman’s poodle.

The war-weary Marine asked, “Ma’am, may I have that seat?”

The French woman just sniffed and said to no one in particular,“Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat.”

The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat left was under that dog.

“Please, ma’am. May I sit down? I’m very tired.”

She snorted, “Not only are you Americans rude, you are also arrogant!”

This time the Marine didn’t say a word; he just picked up the little dog,
tossed it out the train window, and sat down.

The woman shrieked, “Someone must defend my honor! Put this American in his place!”

An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up, “Sir, you Americans often seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You hold the fork in the wrong hand.
You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you seem to have thrown the wrong bitch out the window.”
and then there’s that Nigerian guy whos got this really good business deal for me…

Made my day.

On the other hand, the story about 55 year-old fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger kicking bad-boy rocker Axl Rose’s ass in a nightclub is true . . . pretty much.
NEW YORK May 20, 2006 (AP)— It was a one-two encounter between Axl Rose and Tommy Hilfiger. The rocker and designer capped a Thursday evening out at a new club called The Plumm in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood with midnight fisticuffs.

“There was an issue between the two of them,” Plumm owner Noel Ashman told The Associated Press.

The scuffle reportedly started after the Guns N’ Roses front man moved the drink of Hilfiger’s girlfriend, Dee Ocleppo. . .

According to the 44-year-old singer, Hilfiger, 55, smacked him in the arm and told him to put the drink back.

“He just kept smacking me,” Rose said. . .
:noway:

Hmmm…might look at some TH shirts at the next oppo.

Don’t get too excited. The headlines called it a brawl and suggested that Hilfiger kicked Axl’s butt, but I suspect they exaggerated just a bit.

Here’s karate kid, Tommy Hilfiger:

And in this one he hardly looks like the ultimate fighting machine:

What the hell is he doing snapping his fingers in a fight?

“Doorman, escort these bad boys out of here.”

“Chauffeur, get the limo pronto.”

“Ok, that’s it. If you don’t go away now, I’ll be really really mad.”

In Taiwan, only youth people who join pop dance club buy Tommy Hilfiger, or Nautica, for me its all the same. I’m not going to spend 4,000 NTD for a sweater.

Whenever I get chain emails, I respond to the sender with this link: http://www.breakthechain.org/

It’s unbelievable the stuff that people will believe from these stupid chain letters. My dad at one point was convinced that the American store “Target” was a French-owned company that had some kind of vendetta against the U.S. I had to prove to him that Target was, in fact, a Minneapolis-based company, which was founded by the good-ole Dayton family of Minnesota.
