Darwin did not convert to Christianity. It is a myth started by a person named Lady Hope
might find it enlightening.

Lee Shackelford
Yes, quite amusing, thanks. I’d never heard of this myth of Darwin ‘converting’ to Christianity and renouncing evolution. Regardless of the fact that it’s been disproven historically it’s also ridiculous because Christianity and evolution are not incompatible, and I think Darwin of all people understood this.
The review you linked to described Darwin as an agnostic. I’m not quite sure whether that’s the correct term. But in any case, a nineteenth-century “agnostic” was quite a different thing to a modern atheist. Darwin struggled with some aspects of Christianity. But that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t religious.

At least he’s not discriminating against any one religion or anything - everyone got a serve in that series.
He’s not discriminating, but using religion for his own personal gain as well as mocking it. :s
How about a mormon for president?
I think you have misunderstood a few things about the Mormon beliefs in regards to race. If a church member ever said this to you, they either didn’t express themselves very well or didn’t know the teachings.
It’s true that the church said that blacks were marked black by God, and it’s true that church leaders said that originally this was the same mark that was placed on Cain. It is also true that blacks (specifically) were barred from becoming church leaders (in the priesthood) up until 1978.
However, the following is important:
#1- Mormon leaders explicitly state that the curse of Cain was not the black skin. The curse of Cain was that neither he nor his descendants could join the priesthood (at least in this life). There’s nothing superior or inferior about skin color.
#2- People with ‘black’ skin could join the church before 1978, but could not become church leaders. After 1978 they could become church leaders like anyone else.
#3- People with black skin were never in the history of the Mormon church condemned to hell in their teachings. All people have been able to get to heaven, including if you never heard of the church or couldn’t be made a leader if you joined.
None of that changes that the church treated blacks differently in the past, nor does it change the fact that Mormons have a peculiar sort of belief about dark skins (blacks and Native Americans in particular). But it’s not the way you posted.
Also, there’s a reason that missionaries seem to avoid you here: the vast majority of those sent here are specifically told to teach the Chinese people here and to concentrate on them. If you do express interst in the church they would actually need to “transfer” you to another set of missionaries who are responsible for non-Chinese in Taiwan. Plus the fact that you’re a girl, and there’s probably a set of sister missionaries who they would need to turn you over to.
Not that they wouldn’t talk and discuss things with you if you came up to them and asked them, but they’re not supposed to socialize with members of the opposite sex and if you wanted to be taught they would have to transfer you to another pair. So, pretty much, they have no reason to even try to talk to you.
More brilliance from John Safran!
Here, he gets revenge on an old foe in style.
Warning: Aussie pop culture references. Though the background info should explain most of it.
