Double Ten Day?

I just found out that Friday is a national holiday, double ten day. When I asked my Taiwanese coworkers what it was, they said it was similar to the 4th of July in the US. Wikipedia refers to it as “the national day of the Republic of Taiwan.”

Are there any special events that take place on Double Ten Day, aside from the military parade in Taipei?

Does it really?!

Fireworks.

:o) Yeah, flags, and blowing stuff up…

No military parade this year. IN fact , military parades have become uncommon. FAIK

Oops… that was a typo on my part. It says “Republic of China.” Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, shouldn’t it be “Double Tenth Day”? That’s how I always hear it. (After all, it is the tenth day of the tenth month.)

Hey, it’s not like I’d change it to “Chinese Taipei, renegade province of the great, glorious and correct People’s Republic of China” or something. :rainbow:

They are having the big National Fireworks Thing-a-ma-jig down here in Jiayi.

It sucks. The main road around the corner from where I live has been closed off for the past couple of days in preparation.

I have to drive half way around the city to get to where I want to go.

There fireworks better be impressive.

As a special deal for my coworkers, everyone at my work has to work on 10/10. Except me.

In fairness, they do have the day off on Saturday which they usually don’t, so they get a two day weekend instead of one day.
