Bangladesh rocked by dozens of blasts
17/08/2005 - 08:03:33

Dozens of bomb blasts shook the capital Dhaka and districts across Bangladesh today, police said, as authorities scrambled to count casualties and assess damage.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts, but leaflets from a banned Islamic group, the Jumatul Mujahedin, were found at the scene of explosions in the capital Dhaka, as well as Chittagong, Sylhet and Mymensingh, Bangladeshi media reported. The group wants to establish an Islamic state in predominantly Muslim Bangladesh.

The blasts took place mainly at government offices, press clubs and courts in at least eight cities and districts.

In Dhaka, about a dozen apparently home-made bombs exploded near the airport, at court buildings and in markets, said a city official, Kalpana Rani Dutta. She had no information on casualties.
Let’s blow things up and injure and kill people so we can establish a theocracy!?

Maybe the world would be a better place without religion. :s

How about" Let’s blow shit up, get a violent crackdown by anti-muslim infidels, and then hope and pray that all Muslims worldwide will join the fight against…well, everyone else…and establish a world Islamic theocrazy."

Nah, that would be silly…wouldn’t it? :unamused:

Why, oh why, can’t all mad bombers have shakey hands when they’re putting these things together?

It’s enough to make you weep.

No, it does not make me want to weep. Not at all. :fume:

And in a related note, those convicted in the Bali bombing have had their already ridiculously light sentences reduced.

:noway:

Strike Indonesia off my list of countries to visit someday. They don’t deserve my tourist dollars. :fume:

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?? … and just in time for the tourist season. :loco:

Then Schapelle should get a reduced sentence too. And, I’m not one of the people who said “boycott Bali” when all that went down.

Very sad that bombing as a form of protest has reared its ugly head in Bangladesh. Previously their demonstrations and riots were so entertaining and spectator friendly.
Bangladesh Hit By 300 Bombs; 1 Dead, 125 Injured, Official Says
Aug. 17 (Bloomberg) – More that 300 bombs exploded in towns and cities across Bangladesh today, killing at least one person and wounding 125 others, a senior government official said.

Blasts occurred in 62 of the country’s 64 districts between 10:45 a.m and 11:30 a.m. local time today, Zahirul Haque, director general external publicity at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

Forty-five people have been arrested in connection with the attack, Haque said. He said he had no further information.

A total of 15 bombs went off in the capital, Dhaka, 20 in the port city of Chittagong, nine in Barisal and at least six in the southwestern city of Khulna, Agence France-Presse said. The explosions, caused by what police said they believed to be small, homemade devices, also hit bus and train stations and official buildings, AFP said.

Police found leaflets calling for the establishment of Islamic law near the scene of some blasts, Agence France-Presse said. Leaflets at a bombing site in Barisal told U.S. President George W. Bush and U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair to ``get out of Muslim countries,’’ AFP reported.
CNN: “350 bombs detonating.”

Holy Buddha! We are definitely not cool!

Most intelligent statement of the day:

Least competent terrorists:
350 bombs, only one fatality so far.
