DPP cabinet resigns en masse

Taiwan’s Premier Chang Chun-hsiung and his cabinet resigned en masse Thursday, less than two weeks after the governing Democratic Progressive Party’s crushing defeat in parliamentary elections.[/quote]
Unable to face their responsibility of leading Taiwan into these dark and dire times, they all quit at the same time.

Now the infighting in the DPP continues as Frank Hsieh tries to put his yes-men into the Premier and Cabinet positions.

It will be interesting to see who gets appointed to what position. Frankly (no pun intended), I don’t think it would "Ma"tter (pun intended) at all.

Um, it’s hardly unexpected for this to happen at this point in time following an election with big changes, and it is certainly not without precedent. what’s the big deal?

The resigning en masse isn’t a big deal at all. That is absolutely normal following a legislative election such as this.

I think the issue is the rumoured infighting. The DPP will have to keep that to a minimum as much as possible, if it’s true.

Funny sometimes to see how wrong ac can get it, eh?
There’s always a Cabinet resignation after a legislative election. And Hsieh has nothing to do with it – he’s not the president. It’ll be Chen’s appointments again, with the understanding that it’ll be a caretaker Cabinet until the inauguration, when that Cabinet will resign and THEN Hsieh (or rather Ma) will appoint HIS Cabinet.

So why did they all resign several days before they were originally supposed to? I’ve heard that some of Hsieh’s suggestions, for example the inheritance tax cut, have caused a bit of discord within the administration, and Chang decided to step down early to show his displeasure.

Has anyone noticed they are gone?

Sort of a tree falling in the forest kind of thing, eh?

I’m not suprised you’re a Bruce Cockburn fan!

Don’t ever say such a thing again. I have a rocket launcher you know and it’s not made anyone pay in a while.

Well CSB has begged Chang Chun-hsiung to stay on a premier. With the LY meeting on Feb 1 and CSB leaving office in May 20, I guess CSB doesn’t want to fill his plate looking at resumes.

God only knows there is only a small window of opportunity for CSB to leave the island after May 20 to seek political asylum in the US. Best spend the remainder of his days planning his escape, instead of interviewing for a lame duck position.

You’re right.

He better have travel arrangements and his secret slush funds transferred to overseas accounts, because the indictments will (or at least SHOULD) be coming.

Well, Mr. Montt would have enjoyed returning the payment to Mr. Cockburn and then some. It would have spared us from having to listen to his second-rate music.
