DPP is KMT after all

I was (moderately) pro-DPP until last Saturday. Now I’m just disillusioned.

Last Saturday, Chen Shuibian was in Taitung for an election rally. And there he was on stage, hugging County Magistrate Hsu Chingyuan (Xu Qingyuan) who just recently quit the PFP and joined the DPP. Hsu is possibly the most corrupt county magistrate in all of Taiwan. He first tried to get into office as an independent, paying NT$600 per vote, but lost (just barely). Last time, he joined the PFP and payed NT$1000 per vote, and won. He got the money by borrowing it from the mafia, and has been paying them back with construction contracts, gravel mining, the usual.

One of his big projects was to move the nuclear waste dump on Lanyu to Tawu, another aboriginal area in Taitung County. This almost happened and even got Chen Shuibian’s support, but fell through because of both local opposition and the huge cost involved (and the fact that it solves no problem whatsoever). It was scandalous.

Another scandal is how Hsu spends his weekends - in Macau, gambling and whoring.

What’s next? Maybe the next DPP presidential candidate will be a triad member. Is there really any difference between the DPP and KMT, other than that the DPP candidates are younger?

sign me,
Disgusted

… and the Democrats are Republican, Labor Liberal, New Labor Tory… whats your point. Politics is politics… why should Taiwan be exempt?
County Magistrate Hsu Chingyuan… possibly the most corrupt county magistrate in all of Taiwan.
Yup, he’s a dirtbag alright :frowning:
Do hope Chen Dingnan sorts him out or throws his ass in jail.

Dog’s_Breakfast, show some evidence to support your allegations of Hsu’s misbehavior.

Stop attacking our party! We know for a fact that it is much better than the Chinese parties…

Let the man speak his feelings.

The DPP is much better than the Chinese communist party and its satellite parties on Taiwan (KMT-PFP).

Hsu Chingyuan (Xu Qingyuan) didn’t join the DPP. He is an independant now. If you have facts that he is so corrupt at vote buying report him to Chen Dingnan and have a chance at $10,000,000NT.

Dog’s_Breakfast,

Is there any politician on Taiwan that is clean, besides Mayor Ma. Many on Taiwan share your doubts about the DPP party and if their intentions are truly good for Taiwan.

How could you be a politician in Taiwan and not be corrupt or corrupted?

If you were not corrupt or corruptable you would never get into office

And being corrupted here to the normal people gives you a bit of bravado and respect. :notworthy:

Sorry, you’re right about him being independent, I asked some friends in Taitung to confirm it for me.

Here’s the news article that first caught my eye…

etaiwannews.com/Taiwan/Politics/ … 828657.htm

And this from the Taipei Times…
taipeitimes.com/News/front/a … 1914/print

As for how I know the bastard is corrupt, I used to live in Taitung. During his two election campaigns, my neighbors were waving around his bribe money like confetti. I also remember the gravel truck nightmares as they carted away Taitung County to sell it to Kaohsiung. And the nuclear waste dump…

taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/ … /24/203287

…is a well-known story (his friends in the construction industry were licking their chops over the contracts - in the end, it fell through).

I haven’t got a link to prove his weekend trips to Macau, I’ve just heard it from everybody. It’s not illegal, of course - Macau has legal gambling. As for the prostitutes, anyone who has spent some time in Macau (I have) knows all about that, though I haven’t personally caught Hsu with his pants down, so let’s call that one “speculative”.

As for reporting him to Chen Dingnan, that will have to wait until next year when he is up for re-election (anyone want to wager he’ll be the DPP candidate?).

DB

oh ac, how you make me laugh. somehow the ‘ignore’ button i clicked to ignore you didnt work… ma is as clean as you are bright… ie - not very.

as for taiwan pollies being corrupt… i would argue there aint too many clean pollies ANYWHERE in the world - using a braod def’n of corruption - almost every pollie has a price.

AWOL,

Well since my gravity has attracted your attention. Perhaps you would like to back up your claim to any scandal or corruption Mayor Ma has been involved in for monetary gain.

I be more than interested in the dirt to use against various Taiwanese women I know that idolize the guy.

Corruption and Chinese politics go hand in hand. What else is new?

Why is it that they idolise him? I just don’t get that. He’s a politician so almost by definition he’s a twat.

As for the corruption thing, Ac you should be careful what you ask AWOL to substantiate. Remember you cliamed Ma was the only non-corrupt politician on this island paradise. That m,ight take a whole hell of a lot more proving!

You may hate the KMT, but in all fairness to Ma, no one has (so far) caught him with his hands in the cookie jar. And probably won’t, unless Ma has changed drastically in the past 10 years.

A little history - Ma used to be Lee Tenghui’s Justice Minister (circa 1996 - I’m relying on memory, which admittedly is a little faded these days). He distinguished himself by prosecuting corrupt politicians, which infuriated much of the KMT elite (who were being thrown in jail one-by-one as a result of Ma’s zealousness). A lot of legislators howled, and Lee Tenghui listened - he fired Ma just as soon as he was re-elected to his third (and final) term as president. This infuriated the general public, since Ma was seen as one of the few (perhaps only) honest people in the KMT.

Ma dropped out of politics and took up a teaching position at Zhengzhi University in Mucha. Lee Tenghui started lobbying Ma to run for Taipei mayor. Ma said he wasn’t interested, but Lee kept begging him. The KMT really needed at least one candidate with a squeaky clean reputation, since the DPP was thrashing them on the corruption issue. Ma finally relented, and defeated Chen Shuibian, a major reason why the DPP detests Ma (and a big reason why Ma could never defect to the DPP, even if he wanted to).

I know a lot of the Taidu folks on Forumosa detest Ma too, mainly because he’s a member of the KMT (indeed, he’s the vice-chairman). I personally have no love for the KMT either, but I think it’s wrong to call Ma “corrupt” simply because he’s a party member.

I think Ma’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t fit in anywhere. He doesn’t even act like most Taiwanese politicians (ie throw public tantrums, make wild accusations, lie like a dog). Maybe he should defect to the pan-purples?

yours truly,
DB

I never said I hate the KMT, but to assume Ma is clean as a whistle is simply naive. This is Taiwan and this is politics.

As a politician and a person, ma is one of the better of the lot.
