Dragon boat team?

Hello…
Does anybody out there do Dragon Boat - or know how, when and where I can join a team? I’ve paddled for two years in Canada and would like to paddle here in Taipei…
THANKS!

Hi,
I’m interested in knowing more info about joining a dragonboat team as well. Practice should start soon. It would be appreciated if anyone has info about it. Thanks/Merci.

I know theres a Canadian, Australian and UK Dragon Boat Team, but do they just practice in the summer? Where are these guys and how can i join a team next yr?

I was supposed to take part in this year’s Dragonboat race that unfortunately got cancelled because of SARS. Anyway, I got some understanding of how it is arranged.

AFAIK the teams in Taipei City are usually invited by the Taipei City council. The team I was going to join was led by the Swedish Trade Office after being invited by Ma-Ling Joe.

So, I think you best chances of joining a Dragonboat team would be to contact your trade office/embassy in Taiwan.

Many of the International teams do not consist of foreigners actually living in Taiwan. They are on visit for the sole purpose of participating in this event.

Sucks! It would be such a bigger event if people can put in teams.

It was actually quite difficult to get together our team. Was supposed to be a Scandinavian team, but it ended up having Taiwanese, Russians, and many more nationalities. People were deeply concerned about being that close to Keelung River. Or should I say… Keelung Sewage. It’s not a pretty sight. And you could risk falling outside the boat in the “water”.

I’ve seen people swim in Bitan where the Taipei County Dragonboat race goes. Maybe it’s easier to join the race down there as well. I got the impression that the Taipei City race consist mainly of Taipei City Council departments, while the good teams go to Taipei County.
