Is it safe to use the drain cleaner that they sell in the supermarkets with pvc pipes – or will the cleaner eat through them?

if it was that strong it would eat through the plastic bottle it is kept in. I think.

Good point. Still, a “Yes, it indicates on the bottle that it is safe,” or “I have used it for years with no problem,” would be a bit more reassuring.

Just remember to run the hot water tap/faucet for a few (5-10) minutes.

also remember that septic tanks in taiwan houses are relatively small and run right into the ditch.

unless the drain cleaner is in solid form and is activated in liquid form e.g. with a little water.
