Hobbes imagines blueface as the spitting image of Chevy Chase in National Lampoon’s European Vacation.
Apropos of Dutch prostitutes… I would be interested to discover how many forumosans are generally in favor of legalized prostitution?
Time to separate the libertarians from the social-conservatives…

I have always believed that prostitutes provide a valuable service to society and am in favor of legalized regulated prostitution.
Well, it’s not as illegalizing it has changed much on this island. Taiwan still has one of the highest per capita brothel ratios in the world.
Trivia note: Prostitution is illegal in Thailand and the Philippines. It’s on the law books. That’s why you are technically merely paying for a “tour guide” or a “special massage” - not for sex!
So now we can see the difference between passing a law on the books and actually enforcing a law.
So Hobbes’ question is misleading. Making prostitution illegal is like making masturbation illegal.
I think that prostitution should be legalized and regulated. I think that pimping and brothels should be illegal, as they are parasitic industries.
Absolutely.
Blueface: The Dutch DO NOT wear Lederhosen; the Germans do. The Dutch wear clogs.
I always thought prostitution was legal in Taiwan…or it seems that way when Taipei was under mayor Chen. Weren’t there prostitution licenses handed out in the past, but no new ones ever issued within the past couple of decades.
Stupid triva I guess.
it was hard for me to believe that hookin’ was REALLY illegal in taiwan. everything was set up just so that the dark windowed barbershops weren’t required to provide receipts for services and happened to be located often times within a stones throw of the cop house.
i was always of the opinion that taiwan gave lipservice to appeasing “proper” sensibilities and passed laws that they never had any intention of following. you know… like outlawing eating dog, following free-trade agreements and outlawing chewing of beetle nut in public.
legalize it. require condoms. require HIV checks for taiwanese men returning from “business” in thailand and not just dangerous foreign workers.
back here in jerkwater, USA i can’t tell you where a hooker/brothel is nearby even if you paid me. just ain’t an option. not a problem.
There are two disguised knocking shops a block away from my place. Yuck, they look like middle aged hags that come out of there in the morning when I go past on my way to work. No, I’ve never been in.
skeptic yank,
www.worldsexorg.com now you know where your nearest whore is.
Bassman,
As I cruise through Taipei I think “people selling sex?!?” can’t be. It’s not Japan you know.
a longtime ago the dutch were here… and they started brining many of their own whores, one of the biggest areas is around nanjing west road just down from what was a traffic circle before, but now turned into a ugly round glass building.
plenty of knocking shops around there, local business people often have there meetings in this area when taking out new clients and want to treat their guests for some fun, its a real bad part of town,
Actually, they do have some streetwalkers in Tainan. Go around Mintzu Road circle about around midnight and there’ll be a long row of ladies standing on the side of the road trying to wave you down. Pretty grotty looking lasses from what I could tell. Obviously the police don’t care, as it’s right out there in the open in broad moonlight.
