I just got a couch for really cheap (free) and it’s a nasty color. I wanted to dye it black, but I don’t know how to go about it. The cushions have removable covers and actually the whole couch has a cover that can be taken off, so I can dye just the fabric. Should I try to get it professionally done (and where?) or should I try to do it myself?
hmmm… now, keep in mind that i know nothing about upholstery, but i have some ideas…
first, if you really want to dye the covers black, i am sure if you go to a store like walmart (maybe carrefour although i cant remember if they carry this sort of things… the last one i was in was in beijing in spring 2003)… anyway, go to one of those stores and look to see if they have any fabric dye… you can usually just put it in the wash with the dye and it will dye it a color…
OR you could either make a slip cover for the couch or i’m sure a place like ikea would have one (might be a bit costly though)… if you are good with a sewing machine, then a slip cover might be a good way…
eh, keep in mind, i dont know what i am talking about, i really just like to talk
I have no money so I’m not going to get a cover. I just want to make sure I get a dye that doesn’t rub off on people’s clothes. Does anyone know where to get some?
If you’re talking about that “Dylon” dye, be careful – The kind you use cold DOES rub off on people’s clothes (and skin), while the kind you have to boil would be a massive pain in the butt for something as large as a couch cover.
Got friends or family in the states? Have them send over some ritz dye. it works well, allthough you will have to put a lot hot water in your washer or sneak down to the 24hr laundrymat and do a dye and run.
