Earthquakes 2008

Pretty strong one. Got the closet doors shaking.

I think there’s some undersea Internet cable damage, I can’t get to a lot of international sites for some reason…

A 6.0 in Yilan!

cwb.gov.tw/V5/seismic/Data/q … 60041.html

According to CWB it was a 6.0 about 20km East of Taipei! Nothing on the news yet …

There was a long, but slight prequake this morning around 10am. I figured there’d be something bigger later today. Enough to make the closet doors sway.

I think its very rare a quake with an epicenter so close to Taipei city? Only about 17km east of TAipei city???

Thank God it was very very deep. Still 3 in Taipei is very strong. But if it wasnt deep, it could be very serious because a six on the richter is a major quake.

hopefully no more strong ones coming?

Had forgotten the feeling of an earthquake in a high-rise building. If things hold true to pattern, you’ll get a big one in two days. They always happen 2 days after I leave the island. Hopefully not this time though.

I think the recent 6.8 shook things up a bit around Taiwan. So this quake couldve been related. There may be a few more around the island as the island settles down from the 6.8 (which is considered a major quake) and lucky that one too was very deep.

A very nice sway in Hualien. If all quakes were as soothing as that one, I’ll buy myself a cradle.

It’s kind of strange and scary when you sit on your sofa and watch CNN and their reports on the China earthquake and the after math and than suddenly somebody takes your sofa and shakes it softly. Strongest I felt here for quite a while, thanks god it was deep deep down.

It woke me up in Danshui. I’m on the 9th floor, and my bed was shaking quite a bit. I think this one actually freaked the cat out a little, too. Looked at the clock, 12:59 a.m. Went back to sleep. Were you guys all still awake, or did you get out of bed just to post?

I was awake, watching TV and surfing the net (incl. f.com) at the time when it started to rattle.

The strange thing was that neither of us in our home could fall asleep before this one.

I was so happy to feel one…it’s been a while and it’s so much better when that pressure gets released…not build up to become one biiiiiiiiiiggggggggg quake.

It woke me up…I was asleep on the couch with the dogs…and they went nuts.

That quake was not nice, not at all. Couldn’t sleep afterwards.

I was fast asleep when it happened and it woke me up enough that it wasn’t possible to just roll over and go back to sleep.

This I do not like one bit. The region is very active these days -well, as usual. But I don’t like it a bit!

[quote]A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked the northern Philippines and southern parts of Taiwan early yesterday, shaking houses and prompting authorities to order some people to leave their homes.
The quake struck at a depth of 22 kilometers (14 miles) under the sea bed in the Philippines’ Batan Islands region at 01:57 GMT, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage and no tsunami warning was issued.

Just me, or was there a light one just now?
