The general public is pretty stupid about this (and the media intentionally misleading). eg they’ll say Trump paid no taxes for years xyz. That’s because of a loss carryforward from previous years or amending returns with a carryback. Which is not a “loophole” or tax avoidance.
It’s not worth my energy to tell you why you’re wrong. I will never understand why anyone but the top billionaires in the US support lower taxes for the rich, cuz you. Don’t. Benefit. We have decades of evidence that tinkle down economics does not work. We have no evidence that it does. I don’t need to do that research for you. You’ve already done as much research as you can to avoid facing that reality.
I say tax cuts for the rich works, IF and only IF there are conditions attached to it. The condition is that they must pay the worker a good wage, follow labor laws, etc. and if any violation is found the tax cut is gone, and past tax will be collected immediately. There has to be conditions, strings, or whatever attached or else they will just not trickle down.
Those 110v dryers do not draw much electricity. They can only safely draw maybe 800 watts at most.
The government last week announced that it would increase electricity prices by 11 percent to NT$3.1154 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), effective next month, to keep Taipower afloat, but the adjustment is still lower than the company’s service costs, which stood at NT$4.4054 kWh in January, it said. ----
So after raising rates by 11% we still enjoy a 41% subsidy. This comes after a fall in the cost of fuels.
If this were a private entity you’d expect the utility to extract more to make it attractive to investors.
Electricity is one of those things that in my opinion should be subsidized by the government. Keeps the people who are poor afloat and keeps people happy. I also think putting limits on the credits is good too to keep wasteful businesses from feeling they can air condition the street because it’s cheap
No even cash handouts are better. Let people spend as they see fit. Distorting prices will only lead to inefficiencies. For example lower electricity will lead to less demand for efficient ACs. Then the government needs to pay to identify these inefficiencies and pay even more money to fix them.
'Leccy in Taiwan is very cheap compared to back home. When I often hear Taiwanese complain about the cost of electricity I ask them to imagine a life without it… Most people wouldnt last 1 week.
As I’m sure you know, Taiwan’s economy is full of these “distortions,” especially in places like the science parks, where cheap land, cheap electricity, cheap water, cheap labour are all organized and provided by the state to help industry.
