WCIF a good English-speaking endocrinologist (thyroid disorder) in Taipei?
Thanx in advance

I think MacKay Memorial Hospital would be your best bet.

Thank you gavmasterflash

Since it’s been a few years, I thought I’d inquire re: a good endocrinologist in 2019.

I have Addison’s Disease and Hashimoto’s, and therefore need a good endocrinologist who is attentive to my specific medication requirements.

I saw an endocrinologist at Taiwan Adventist yesterday, and the doctor there could only prescribe medications that the hospital had in-stock. Unfortunately, the pills on file would clash pretty heavily with my regimen as it has existed for over 6 years. Changing my medications at this point is ill-advised.

Are there any endocrinologists that practice outside of the hospitals, particularly one that can prescribe what I need? In the end, yesterday, I found a pharmacy that carries my specific pill, and I had to purchase it out-of-pocket. I’d rather not do that again, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

There is a functional medicine doc who is also a family medicine PCP trained from National Taiwan University. He speaks English and is a very patient-centered. Might be able to help you.

mferng: Have you been to that clinic? How are the cost? I’m new to Taipei and wondering what to expect in terms of health cost (e.g. initial consultation, checkup). Interested in functional medicine clinics.

How about you go to NTU hospital they have good insrumentation for testing hormones and diagnosis, which can be pretty tricky.
But nothing wrong with trying other recommendations either.

They take national health insurance so the copay is quite low - about NT200-300 if I recall. Not sure how much it would cost for out-of-pocket without insurance. Similar to western functional medicine clinics, the lab tests will cost a pretty penny.

Any updated recommendations for an Endocrinologist in Taipei? I have had Type 2 diabetes for about 2 or 3 years (management with oral medications and lifestyle changes). I was diagnosed by my regular long-time cardiologist, who has prescribed diabetes management meds (linagliptin and metformin). I have not used a glucometer and only checked glucose levels via quarterly blood tests prior to regularly scheduled cardiologist appointments (for med refills).

I plan to speak to my cardio about a recommendation for an endo, but I would appreciate feedback from others in Taipei today. Please DM me if you don’t want to discuss this publicly.

Eat well!

This 20yo thread could be revived, too

For more serious endocrine problems which may require advanced testing of glands, blood gases or CT scans of glands etc… a large hospital is probably more equipped.
Otherwise can just Google search endocrinologist in Chinese and go through the results on the map which will even translate the ABOUT and REVIEWS into English.
Internal medicine clinics are also common here and if searched in the same way will show some who specialize in a few multiple practices of internal medicine such as cardiology and diabetes, cardiology and endocrinology, diabetes, kidney problems etc…
A lot more convenient then the large hospitals and they can refer to large hospital specialists when needed.
Some of the internal medicine clinics will be equipped for most blood testing, ultrasound/echocardiogram for heart and thyroid, X-ray, EKG, 24 hour heart monitor tests and EECP therapy.
I’m sure the Google search/map thing would work for other specialist clinics.
Cross referencing to a clinics webpage may give detailed background info on each individual doctor’s background, training and qualifications.
