ENGLISH speaking cab drivers are here!
Total accumulated time in Taiwan 10 months.

Times I have been asked if I have a GF by a TW Female = more than I can count.

Times I have been asked if I had a wife by a TW Female = 5

Times I have been asked for my cell phone number by a TW Female = 5

Times I have been asked if I want some nooky nooky by anyone other than my GF (now Wife) = 0

Times I have been glared at, given the evil eye, been told off in Taiwanese, Mandarin, and who knows how manyother languages for being a foreign guy with a Taiwanese woman = 16 (and expected to grow)

The most recent experience of being yelled at by a Taiwanese was 2 nights ago. Was with the Mrs. Quarters and her mother, 9:30pm, crossing the street near eslite by 101. Only people crossing the street, lots of traffic…some nut job sticks his head out his car wondow and starts yelling obceneties at us. I ask the wife what he is shouting and she says to just move along quickly. Once we get to the curb, she says he is shouting bad words and threatening ME for being a foreigner with a TW girl, she also siad he called her a whore for selling herself out to a foreigner and betraying her own kind. I naturally turned around and gave our not so friendly admirer the one finger salute and went along our way.

This, and other experiences, leave me with the definate impression that a lot of local guys (especially middle age ones - Taxi Driver age) do not look keenly on us foreigner folk being with Taiwanese women. Hence why I find it hard to belive that taxi drivers are offering to sell out their own women to western foreigners.

I have been to Ximending many times and have seen all sorts of people, but have never been able to spot a street worker. I have been told that they “blend in” and do not openly proposition people…they have their secret signs, codes, and numbers…most communication is done through text messageing and calls. I’ve never actively been on the prowel for such women/girls so I don’t know how accurate my observations have been, just casual observations I guess.

What I do know for sure is that there were two barber shops that were definately questionable (I seriously doubt they were offering haircuts) near where I live. Both are now gone. One is now an OK KTV and the other is now an empty building. As with other places in Taipei, these institutions seem to be closing shop. This is just my observation and is why i said “seems to be”.

Taiwan will remain Taiwan with it’s Motels, Spa’s, etc where you pay by the hour, rather by the night. There will always be prostitution in this world no matter you like it or not, however Taiwan just doesnt have what other SE Asia countries have to offer western foreigners.
(in my opinion, that is a good thing).
your lady has got to be real cute. and the dudes are jealous. MY GF used to say to the people that would ask her why shes with a foreigner "oh but he can speak chinese " that seemed to work or at least made them go “???”

they are jealous cuz shes cute, thats all.

most taiwanese are ok with u having a taiwan lady. IF you walked around with a phillippina they would ask you why you dont like taiwan girls??   u cant win em all as they say.

I’ve never picked up a street worker in Hsimending (Ximending) (Ximending).
I’ve done all the others though, long before I got married and settled down, of course. I’ve also had countless offers from taxi drivers over the years, bellhops knocking me up in hotels in the middle of the night, etc. I can’t believe you haven’t.
Reasons 1,234,346 as to why namahottie is leaving Taiwan. Cabbies don’t ask me anything except if I’m married or have a bf? And those questions ONLY come from the binlang drivers. So, make that another 1,234,347 reason as to why to leave Taiwan. :s
ok all u forumosans Namahottie needs some lovin . get with it !!!

Hahahahahaaa! And you’ve been here how long?

Taking you to a working girl isn’t selling out their own women.

Wait just a minute! I thought only ugly Taiwanese women date foreign nationals?

you KNOW thats not true  (better not let YOUR GF think thats what YOU think )

I do know that. And it isn’t what I think, its what many Taiwanese men often say.

And my girl has been my wife for the past 18 years.

Gee, and my girl will become my wife in 10 days.

Congratulations and much happiness to the both of you… :bravo:

Actually, come to think of it …
Once when I (a foreign woman) was travelling in a taxi with a foreign male friend and a Taiwanese woman, the taxi driver asked the guy right in front of us if he wanted to be taken to a brothel. And then the driver kept on going on and on about Lin Shen Bei Lu.

Hahahahahaaa! And you’ve been here how long?
A total of 10 WHOLE months.
But he seems to know everything there is to know about Taiwan.
Don’t try to tell him differently.

When did I ever proclaim that absurd notion? I don’t think or pretend to know everything about Taiwan. I was just relating my own observations from my own experiences.

Some people here have “ownership” issues with Taiwan :unamused: . Its a fairly big Island, I’m sure we can share it.

I took one of those “English” taxis yesterday. Idiot couldn’t get it that I was speaking Chinese so kept guessing, in English, where I wanted to go. So I spoke English (Xinyi and Anhe) and he didn’t get it. Finally I just told him to drive straight and I would tell him when to stop.We were going along Xinyi so he then started asking if I wanted to go to Taipei 101. No! World Trade Centre? No! Warner Brothers? No! Just drive straight.

If this is what it’s going to be like, I think I will just walk, or look for drivers I’m sure can’t speak a lick of English.

It’s your strange accent. Maybe you can try talking like a hillbilly.

Just do like I do. Tell them you don’t speak a word of English.

Q,

Its not about ownership… Its about trusting, or at least respecting other people’s perceptions of reality. As you say, you have your own observations and experiences, all from just 10 months here. Others have been here far longer than 10 months, and our observations and experiences count also.

Just because I didn’t see the STEELERS whip the Chiefs doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

I have been asked many times by cab drivers if I wanted a girl. Perhaps I look like I couldn’t get laid without paying, or perhaps it was the location of my destination, or perhaps it was because we were a couple of guys and the cabbie just thought naturally we’d want a girl or two. In any event, I cannot count the number of times I have been asked whether I was looking for sex here in Taiwan. I know lots of other people with similar experiences.

Why is it so “hard” to believe someone else’s experiences?

Just do like I do. Tell them you don’t speak a word of English.
Yes, and with which language should I say this?

I get your point. Didnt intend to sound like I was knocking anyones opinions. Just sharing conflicting experiences.

I do have one tiny beef though…and that is people (long timers here) who say things like “yeah that happens to me all the time” or “this is how things are or arent” and they are basing their statement off of outdated experiences that occured 6, 7 , 8 , 9 10 or more years ago. Things in Taiwan have changed a lot since then and they are still changing. Please, if you are a long timer or lifer who bases their comments on things that happened eons ago, clarify when it occured when you post.

Tigerman, and others: I am not saying you are guilty of the above at all. It is just a general beef with no one in particular in mind.

As far as my comments about marrying a hooker…like I said, to each their own. I am not passing judgement or condemning anyone. Just merely stating that for me, I don’t see the benefits outweighing the negative aspects of marrying a sex trade worker. I am sure some or many would make fine spouses and what not, just wouldnt be on my list of positive qualities in a potential partner.

OK.

That’s fair. Things certainly have changed here. But, the more some things change, the more some things stay the same, in some respects.

I guarantee you that if you take a ride tonight up to the Japanese section of the Combat Zone at Lin Sen N. Rd., you will find many taxi drivers who will assume that you are looking for “take out”, and there’s a good chance they’ll ask you if that’s what you’re looking for, and if it is, they will know just where to take you. You can test this tonight, or tomorow night, or any other night in the future.
