Enter China with USA or Taiwan passport?

Hi,

I’m planning on going to China and was wondering which passport would be better to enter China with?

You can’t enter China with a Taiwan passport. You’d need a “Taiwan compatriots card” or something like that, which is probably cheaper to acquire than a PRC visa in a U.S. passport.

In Chinese it’s called a taibaozheng 台胞證. You can find more information about it by searching Forumosa for the word taibaozheng. Unfortunately some people choose to spell it in weird and wonderful ways, in which case you can’t find the information by searching for the word.

In case I go for the PRC visa in US passport, where do I got to get this visa stamp? AIT?

Think I’ll go with my ROC passport though…

Thanks!

You normally go to the embassy / represantative office of the country you want to visit, not where your passport is from.

But since Taiwan and China have a, say special relationship things work a bit differently:

Your US passport will go back to the US for processing. I heard from travel agents that it’s a pain in the ass to do China visas for US passports. You might want to try the in HK/Macau in person technique to get it. Some have had success with that, but I haven’t tried.

Taibaozheng is the way to go.

Yeah…it is so hard I can get one same day service in the HKG airport while having my latte at Pacific Coffee.

With US passport, might want to consider this for one day visa transiting Hong Kong:

At this thread… “China Visa Going From Taiwan, Works Like A Charm”

Great, that “works like a charm” thread looks promising, I’ll be using those tips on getting my visa to enter China

Revisiting my same question but from a different angle:

Is it possible to get a TaiBaoZheng with a Taiwan Passport and ARC? Or is this privilege only available to 1st class Taiwanese citizens? Any advantages/disadvantages of USA passport w/ China Visa (VS) Taiwan passport with TaiBaoZheng?

You must like myself have your Hukou and ID Card to apply for the Tai Bao Zheng.

If you don’t have those then use your US passport to travel to China.
