You may be banned from entry for a certain duration, depending on the offense.

There is some information here, but not sure how relevant or applicable:

DUI and accident

And sentenced to what? Fine? Prison?

fine and a probation

Ask immigration.
They are usually OK, not trying to catch people out.

I suggest checking with a lawyer.

Ask at NIA. If I remember, if you were sentenced to jail (even if commutable to a fine) and/or probation for one (or maybe two) years you would get deported and banned from reentry. I’ve never heard of anyone staying in the country but being banned from leaving and returning. If you have to get a visa to come back, you may not be banned, but they may choose not to issue a visa based on your record.

Don’t know about re-entry bans, but I believe with a record you’ll probably no longer be able to take advantage of visa-free-entry. Therefore, have to apply for a visa from now on out, if that was something you didn’t need to do before.
