Is there anyplace in Taipei to buy epsom salt and uniodized sea salt?
Supermarket beneath the Far Eastern Mall has many varieties of natural sea salt (all without water
), as does Breeze Supermarket. Be prepared to pay large sums of money for it.
Epsom salts I don’t know.
Thanks!
Where is the Far Eastern Mall? Next to the Far Eastern Hotel? The sea salt is that which can be drank right? I am not looking for something to bathe in.
Would I be better to order it overseas to save money?
Its the one down near the bottom of Dunhua S. Rd. just north of the intersection with Heping. And yes, its for cooking, not bathing.
Thanks sandman.
How about rock salt? Or course salts? These are the only other salts I can think of that are similar to what I need.
Quite some time ago I was also looking for epsom salts, and if I remember correctly the big and small pharmacies all said that they could not sell Epsom salts over the counter. It is only available under doctor’s prescription.
Rock salt can be found at most small markets. You can buy it by the small or big bag. I buy the 50 KG
bag for under 1000 NT. I use it to make my own mineral baths and it makes a great soak.
BTW: This is the same salt that is colored and perfumed and then marketed as bath salts.
EDIT: oops. I just saw that you want this salt for drinking. I will ask the market man if it is drinkable and let you know.
Hi,
I just bought some natural rock sea salt at Jason’s Supermarket for around 150NT for a (300g?) bag. It’s from New Zealand, slightly brownish-gray in color, and says it’s high in minerals, naturally dried in the sun, etc. It looks like the real thing…
I’m looking for some EXTRA FINE uniodized salt or “flaked salt for cheesemaking”, in quantities of a kilo or two. Not large, coarse kosher or rock salt. Fine sea salt, uniodized, will do. Any leads? I’m in Taibei. Thanks!
Costco has large plastic bottles of “extra fine sea salt,” just saw them in Chungho.
Thanks, I’ll check. If they don’t say ‘iodized’ and also don’t say ‘uniodized’, I wonder which they’d be. Some in Jason’s are like that.
Didn’t check!
Was at Carrefour during lunch time.
They have Hain Sea Salt which specifically noted that it is uniodized. NT$109 for 737g.
There is also a Natural Sea Salt, made by Sea Board. NT$22 for 1Kg. This is coarse grain and claim to be all natural.
Thanks, mate! ![]()
